Move a thread from one forum to another?

I know this seems kinda strange but is it possible to move an entire thread from one forum to another?

Including all the associated data (I am thinking attachments here) ?

Re: Move a thread from one forum to another?

Perhaps I phrased my question poorly:

Can I move a thread, for example, from APFFN to say another Pink Floyd Forum ? Not me per se, but can such a movement of data be accomplished ?

Dunno. Ask Paulo. Does APFFN have copyright of all the data at APFFN? Ask Paulo that too.

Re: Move a thread from one forum to another?

why would you wanna do that anyway? I think that *IF* it is possible.. it'd have to be the same software as this.. but that's just my guess..

cheers

It's not possible, unless you do it manually, which is a real pain in the neck.

The only way that could be done, Lej, were if the other if they were both installed in the one directory, running the same software, and one entire forum would have to be written over.

So basically, not practically, no.

Re: Move a thread from one forum to another?

Thanks much fellas!

The real reason I asked was, there was a thread on the victims of 9/11 on one forum and some of the folks on another forum wished to work on the thread (expand it etc.). I was chose as the D-base and complier guy. I had not problems doing it... except that the old thread had already gotten to 36 pages and I was wondering if there was any shorter way to do it...

No matter. Small sacrifice to be paid in terms of time and effort.

Thanks for the contributions anyways people. Big help

Re: Move a thread from one forum to another?

If you can create a dump file from the existing DB you should then be able to transfer the file to another server and use it as an input. Both requires direct access to the DB

Re: Move a thread from one forum to another?

They'd have to be the same forum software (ie vBulletin, like here, or phpBB2, or whatever...).

Re: Move a thread from one forum to another?

Hence the manual part... But since the fields aren't very different (from, subject, body, etc) it wouldn't be all that hard - just really tedious.

Interestingly enough, there's actually a living to be made migrating old databases to newer formats.
