Re: Problems

Stratman, if you're still looking for your video driver, you can take the cover off and try to get all info off the ic chip in the middle of the card. Post it here, I've had, at one time or another, every video card ever made in my hands. There is no chip on earth I can't recognize, unless it's covered by a heat sink (a piece of metal attached to the vid card's chip), You can gleen any info off of the card (silk screened on the card somewhere) post it here and I'll tell you where to find the driver, if i can't find it, it doesn't exist! Sorry I didn't read your call for help sooner. Like I always say if electrons flow thru it I can fix it!

Re: Problems

Stratman, go here to download a program called Aida32. It's a diagnostic tool that tells you in layman's terms exactly what's on and in your PC, gives you info about which drivers are being used, whether they need updating, provides you with links to the correct sites etc.

Or you could drink some orange juice.

But I'd recommend the former.

But the orange juice is a good idea, too.

Re: Problems

Aneurysm, bring up google.com and type in 'AIM waits 10 seconds to post' if it's an AIM problem or a 'common' problem it will show up as a link. the 1st or 2nd or 3rd one may tell you how to fix it or you may not get any results at all, in which, it could be isolated to your computer i.e. software conflicts, etc. it's possible there is some obscure setting or you need to upgrade your aim to such and such version, I don't know all AIM versions off hand, it's worth a shot to try.

Re: Problems

Would it have anything to do with a slow internet connection?

Re: Problems

Hey fixxy that's a great idea, but sometimes it's hard to read stuff online in 16 colors. Either way he should be able to get it straightened out.

Re: Problems

Well, my connection is pretty slow. I'll try what you said Waters. By the way I just upgraded to the newest version of AIM.

Re: Problems

Thanks for the help, guys. I've kind of grown accustomed to this POS so it isn't bothering me much now. I really haven't had much time to mess with it, anyway.

According to the "systems" info, the video card is a "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) and it's driver is a "Microsoft date:4-23-1999 file version 4.10.1998". The computer thinks it is installed and working properly, however. Stupid fecker.

I tried fixxy's website reference, but couldn't open the file because I don't have a zip program installed yet.

I'll pop the lid on this thing and see what the video card number is.

Meanwhile, I'll grab another glass of Orange juice.

Re: Problems

Okay thanks Waters, I searched Google and found a forum where people were complaining about the same thing and a guy posted a program that cleaned your computer, ect. and it helped him so I installed it and ran it and it's fixed! If you wouldn't have suggested searching Google I probably never would have and would still be in this pickle, thanks again. Cheers.

Re: Problems

Stratman, did you get your driver installed, if you need a zip program, you can download winzip free version, it only lasts 21 days though, but should be useful enough to get fixxy's aidia32 program, it would be good to use on all your hardware, never know when you might need that info. Go to www.winzip.com and on the left column click on download and get the freeware. Anyway I hope it all works out ok for you.
