| Okay, so I just went into Sound Studio on the eMac, did a File -> Open -> CD -> "One of These Days" off the Delicate Sound of Thunder 2-CD set. I then highlighted the 6 seconds of lyrics there around 3:30 minutes into the song and did a copy/paste into another file. Finally, I figured out how to do a Select All and then an Audio -> Adjust Pitch there on the menu, adjusting the pitch to 200%. In other words, they used a half-speed on that original audio tape to lower the tone by an octave. Ah man, you gotta love it! I must have played this bit something like twenty times now listening to Nick doing this in falsetto. hahaha It sounds vaguely like something you might here out of Ren & Stimpy. http://www.ChooseOne.com/images/PinkFloydLyrics.wav http://www.ChooseOne.com/images/Pink...TimesSpeed.wav Last edited by Anony-mouse : 02-22-2005 at 02:26 PM. |

| Re: One of These Days No, he actually sang it on the post-Roger tours. And they used a vocoder to lower his voice.

| Re: One of These Days "The Lyrics "One of these days Im going to cut you into little pieces' were created by Nick Mason , whose voice was slowed down and put through a guitar amplifier with a fast tremelo and a Coloursound distortion pedal." Source - Echoes (the book)

Yeah, it was Rog at Pompeii, if you look carefully, you can see him with the voice box in the background. Also, the reason they don't have other angles, if you listen to the interview with Maben, is they lost a great deal of the film in transit. Everything went wrong, all because of a stupid power issue. That movie could've been legendary. As is, it's still damned good. I suppose, if things hadn't gone the way they did, we wouldn't have all that great footage from the DSoTM recording sessions, including Nick asking for (and later declining) his pie.

| Re: One of These Days This question has been burning my mind for quite some time as to why that lyric? How does that flow with the rest of the song? Is there some meaning within it? Or were they merely making music for music's sake?

| Re: One of These Days It's supposed to be over-the-top aggressive and confrontational, but silly at the same time. A lot like "careful with that axe, Eugene!"

It sounds a bit like that, "One of these days Alice... to the moon!" in which Ralph Cranston is hinting at violence but by omitting the verb it made it past the censors there in The Honeymooners back in the 50's or whenever. To me I'd say that Nick actually heard his father say this to his mother. It's too powerful of a lyric and too truthful and raw to be just made up. I once met the kind of father who would say something like that and I'm pretty sure it's one of the darkest episodes of family life ever written down in song lyrics. |
