I've heard of them. Aren't they emo? I don't really like the emo stuff that I've heard. It's too whiny. But by them I have heard "Elf Power" and "The Crowning". I guess they were alright, nothing to write home about.

I didn't know listening to two songs was enough to disparage a band.

Yeah, they're not that bad really. Some of their songs do annoy me, but all and all they're okay.

emo blows donkey penis for quarters. Coheed and cambria are the same. I think this musical-less genre needs to be thrown out like the garbage it is. Ok, I've had enough of the whining and the complaining, and the teenage breakup anthems.

lets just say those faces rock out harder than the emo bands...even the alleged "hardcore" emo bands that have tattoos and piercings and jump around a lot, and yet all their songs are love songs and their crying all the time.....pathetic....

I'm a fan now, they definitely separate themselves from all of the other emo bands out there.

You are all wrong, these guys are far from emo, they know how to melt some faces and create some great melodies. Do your self a favor and check out the song "Welcome Home" from thier new album, it will change your life. Im seriuos, listen to it.

Re: Coheed and Cambria

Currently my favorite band. Thanks Brad. I agree with your challenge. "Welcome Home" kicks butt. See my challenge at the end of my rant-

This band is awesome in concert and the studio. I "discovered" them at Warped tour before they had their first album. Powerful, dedicated, challenging, engaging and talented. Listen to the blues influence, the Zeppelin overtones, a lot of guitar battles and exchanges -Skynyrd style, the Leslie organ, the piano and the full orchestral pieces written by Claudio . This is NOT emo. Good Charlotte is emo. AFI is even more emo than C&C. C&C is something else I can't define except that to say they are more like old school metal. There is definitely a lot of Gilmour influence. Their "lullabies" could be played to your grandma, except that if she listens to the lyrics, they sing of murder - for a "reason" and there is a reason for the lyrics:

The reason- You have to be a graphic novel (comic) fan and you have to be into the science fictional story that they are conveying to appreciate what it is they are putting forth in the story/lyrics. check their web site. If you don't start with the storyline, the rest of what they do makes little or no sense and even the music won't save the day for you if you depend on "understanding" the song to appreciate it. (I wonder if Charles Mingus ever had that problerm) Anyway...

Claudio Sanchez has a great range of emotion but you have to get over that he sounds like Geddy Lee or else appreciate that he does - only better. All that and he handles his guitar licks with awesome sensitivity and precision.

lIf you are a Floyd Fan and curious about this band, I suggest that you start with- a song named "The Final Cut" - a title familiar to all us Floydians- cut number 15 on the CD "Good Apollo, I'm burning...etc" It is emotionally draining, the chops are really tasty. This is "Future Blues", angrier, sadder, more hurt, but still with a nod to the roots of rock.

No shit- right Brad?

and then let it ride for a hidden track reminiscent of Led Zep II instrumental filler - marvelous!!

Re: Coheed and Cambria

Oh yeah (as if that last post wasn't long enough) "Welcome Home" is #3 on the "Good Apollo, etc". It has a Trans Siberian Orchstra kind of feel. My point is that if you listen to them, you will hear a lot of what you already like about other excellent bands, including PF.

Yep, I totally agree with you on "The Final Cut" song, its like a modern up beat Shine On You Crazy Diamond, good stuff. Im gonna be buying the rest of Coheed's music, waywardson, do you have a suggestion of what album to buy next?
