Final Cut Re-release 2004

for those who doesn't know... Capitol Records will release the final cut remastered. the official date is 4th April but with pf we never know.... 'when the tigers broke free' will be in the cd as a bonus track. i hope they will include 'the heros return part 2' as well... i got it on not now john 12'' but my turn table is out of business for ages.

I've read that it's going to be separated into 2 parts with Part 1 between One of the Few and The Heroes Return, and Part 2 at the end. I can't say I like it, mainly because Two Suns is an excellent closer and the album closing with the line "And that's how the High Command took my Daddy from me" just doesn't seem right.
It'd be nice if they included that with the music videos from the Final Cut EP on a bonus disc. It's probably not going to happen, though.

I haven't got The Final Cut yet do you think it is worth holding out for the remaster (as I have WTTBF on IAOT?and Echoes) or just get the original?

if you have echoes than don't wait for the remaster. i don't think wttbf fits really well in TFC. but you got to get the original album anyway. one of roger's best work.

Why didn't they release it as SACD or DVD-A? Those formats aren't just about surround-sound, but better sound quality. Which I've always supposed is the idea of Remasters.

Hmm I don't really think WTTBF belongs on the Final Cut either, and I probably won't even buy this new version just for one song. The quality doesn't even sound bad on the cd's, so why remaster it?

Yeah, if you've got The Final Cut already and are planning on getting the "Echoes" compilation at some point anyway, then there's no point to get the new Final Cut release since WTTBF is on "Echoes".

That's odd, I bought your regular stock copy on CD not too long ago and it had a sticker on the front proclaiming it to be remastered.

So I guess I won't buy the new one, since WTTBF really has no business being on the album. As a bonus track, maybe, but not interspersed with the album itself.

Why would you re-release one of their worst albums?

One of PF's worst, yes; but it is one of Waters' best works. It's a Waters solo album technically, and it almost was one - literally.

I quite like it, listened to it yesterday again. I'll be buying it because I only have it on cassette which is my parents (and as old as me) and I don't even have a tape-deck.

Shane, you are right, the one you have is remastered as well. So is the one I have.

To my knowledge, there is the old CD with very little artwork, then the 1997 Columbia remaster (which is the one I have, and the one I assume you have as well), and then this new one with WTTBF on it.

Then why re-release it? Just to include a bonus track? The mind boggles.
