I've read that when Syd was living at the Chelsea Cloisters hotel in the early '70s, he gave away some of his guitars to bellboys instead of a tip.

yeah. kind of sad. lets hope the bellboys still have the guitars and they're going to send them to the rock n roll hall of fame some day soon.

If I had one of Syd Barrett's guitars, I wouldn't give it to anybody for any amount of money. Especially if i was a bellboy

very true. I'd mount it somewhere and if anyone even thought about touching it I'd slap 'em.

Silly?

Those bellboys probably grew up listening to Saturday Night Fever and Cher.

Of course, what's the point of owning a guitar when you want to urge yourself not to play it? Neil Young follows that philosophy, but that's another story.

you know what? I just registered to this forum and was just about to make a post asking if anyone knew where his guitars were. I really would like to know since I would love to see some real up close photos. im sick of seeing the 59-dc and would really like to see his tele. I've never really seen any pics of syd's mirror disc tele up close before and would really like to see it. Any1 have any pics of him with it which you can actually see it?

Here you are, both Rogers & the mirrored Tele in all her glory:

Syd contemplates how cool his guitar looks:

And I think that's her in action onstage:

This one is a replica from the Interstellar exhibition:

haha thanks. Ive seen some of those pictures, but not as big. But very surprised to see a picture of that replica of syd's guitar. I really wish fender would make a syd barrett esquire replica. I would definately buy one.

My pleasure. Welcome aboard the APFFN!

Edit: I don't think they'd sell many of those, but it's a great idea nonetheless...

Hi, I just made a interesting find that everyone is always asking about in one of my old rolling stones which has kind of an interview with Syd. Issue No. 98. December 23rd, 1971. He talks about his new guitar he bought and about the mirror disk esquire and tells where it went.

This it what it says:

He produces a guitar and begins to strum out a new version of "Love You" from Madcap. "I worked this out yesturday. I think it's much better. It's my new 12-string guitar. I'm just getting used to it. I polished it yesturday." it's a Yamaha. He stops and eases it into a regular tuning, shaking his head. "I never felt so close to a guitar as that silver one with mirrors that I used on stage all the time. I swapped it for the black one, but I've never played it."

The article has many other interesting facts about Syd sitting in the cellar with his paintings, guitars and records and a bit of things about him saying that he doesn't take acid anymore.
