Re: Album Covers..

I read something that said the mask is really a bizarre form of a bottle-opener.

Re: Album Covers..

It's a compilation of Early works.

You can go to the Lyrics and Discography on the left side of your browser and find out the songs on it.

By the way... what does the AMLoR cover mean?

"The idea for this cover came from 'Yet Another Movie' whose lyric mentions 'visions of an empty bed.'...Instead of visions of an empty bed we decided to do vision of empty beds."

From the book Pink Floyd Shine On which accompanied the Shine On box set.

Re: Album Covers..

go to www.rockoptic.com

This is a site created and managed by Storm Thorgerson himself and contains a LOT of useful information on the various Floyd covers and their meanings... along with pics of each of their original prints... the site also features Roger Deans... It's a really weird and cool site.

Also, if you go to the discography on pinkfloyd-co.com and click the "trivia" link for each disc, they usually have some info there too... I'm not sure if they have info on this stuff on this site yet... I have to admit, I haven't been able to explore the whole thing yet...

AHM cover - Andy Warhol I believe didn't make a statement saying that a cow is the most unpsychedelic thing ever... he just had some cow wallpaper that Storm happened to notice and STORM said it was probably the most unpsychedlic thing he'd ever seen. The cow's name was Lulubelle III and it was the first one Storm saw on his drive out to the country to find a cow.

What I find amazing about all the covers is that they are all photographs (altered of course, but still photos). I had always thought they were Illustrator creations or something, but it's amazing that they got these awesome shots and ideas and then gave them minor alterations on Photoshop or something similar... or by more primitive means.

I really encourage you to visit rockoptic.com. It's abundant with info on how and why the covers were made. Hope it helps!

Re: Album Covers..

What technology would they have had at their disposal? I'm sure Photoshop didn't exist in ANYTHING like its present form...I ask because that art impresses me even more than some of the computer-generated stuff of today.

Re: Album Covers..

Sorry... two corrections to my earlier post...

1. DSOTM was a drawing, not a photo... I used the word "all" instead of "most of"... my mistake!

2. I used the word Photoshop for lack of a better one, since I have absolutely no knowledge of what they might have used. What I SHOULD have said (and really meant) was: It's amazing that they got some really cool album covers with the limited technology they had, especially since most of them are photos... and I hadn't known that... once again... my mistake!

Sorry!

Re: Album Covers..

I mean, the Division Bell was a photo... they actually MADE those statues... that is awesome. I'm a big fan of this artwork - the Floyd covers that is... they are just incredible!

Yes. Although, the Cranberries one has an egg on the end of it.
