My idea
I think that itīs more of a melancolic view of the childhood and stuff like that....maybe when pink floyd was a friendīs band and "they meet there at the cut".....

(As I understand it) the general thing behind amused to death is 'lots of aliens coming down and finding us all dead in front of our TV's and generally summarising that we amused ourselves to death'.
