Ok- A difficult one- What name did Syd's cavorting naked ladyfriend give when asked by the photographer during "The madcap returns" session? And what is the less insulting, more indigeounously friendly term? And a really difficult one- What is unusual about Syd's diary entry for December 11th, 1961? And why is this? Total respect if you get this- Mark _________________ Isn't this where we came in?

Just ran accross your trivia forum, and i'm very impressed (and slightly scared) about the amount of trivia you guys know about the greatest band to ever play instruments. I'd love to ask a question, guess i'll have to figure one of yours out first. Thanks for the fun.

Dec. 11, 1961, is that the day that Syd Barrett realized the name of the band?

Just as an offtopic question, this one is rather easy: On the first song of The Division Bell, how could the name (and the picture) have to do with what the song might possibly be about? I'll be back Saturday to answer it if noone gets it.

Ohh, "Cluster One"...what a beautiful song. The theme of The Division Bell (I say "theme" rather than "concept"--there IS a difference) is one of absence or of interrupted/missing communication. The image, to me, appears to be of three observatories searching for some elusive phenomenon. One common phenomenon in space is that of the star cluster (it is, in fact, more common to have at least a binary system than having a single Sun as we do). But the phenomenon they have found, perhaps, is "Cluster One"--a contradiction in terms. It is supposedly a cluster of stars, but is in fact alone, missing its "companion." And that goes back to the theme of TDB: absence, lost communication. I'm sorry if that's a bit far-fetched, but that's the only way I can think of to make the image relate as well as just the title.

Well that works too... I was thinking more along the lines of cluster which could mean a bunch of things, or people. And one meaning the first, maybe the first group of people, and the observatory is in the field of astronomy, one of the songs of the first cluster of the band was astronomy domine. But your answer seems more definite to me, since the theme of the album is indeed communication.

Anonymous, I'd be interested if you would elaborate on your idea of each observatory representing a "cluster" of the band. Do you refer to each lineup the band had? If so, then I don't know if there are enough observatories. We would have if all lineups under which an album was made were counted (I use shorthand for easier typing): --SB, NM, RW, RWr --SB, DG, NM, RW, RWr --DG, NM, RW, RWr --DG, NM, RW --DG, NM, RWr Could each observatory (and I think this might work for both our theories) represent one of the current PF members? If so, how and why?

What do you mean? on The Division Bell artwork there is only one observatory in the picture, the "cluster one" just represents the first four members of the band, the first "cluster" as you could call it, it being Syd, Nick, Richard, and Roger, and the observatory representing one of the more famous songs of the beginning group, Astronomy Domine. At least I believe that is one of the earlier songs, it was on Piper wasn't it?

Anonymous--do you have the tape or the CD? If you have the cassette (I went through two before getting the CD), then if memory serves correctly, I believe there is only one observatory. If you have the CD, then there are three observatories.

Ok guys, here one. Where does the quote "What's rock and roll without a litle feedback?" come from?

I borrowed the CD my sister had and to my recollection there was only one observatory, oh well, what I'm more interested in is finding out what all the different terms are that are hiding around the booklet in the small black faces, they're all in different languages! Someone should scan in the book art for all of the Pink Floyd CDs, that would rock.
