Picture Discs and rare Vinyl

Hi, newbie here.

Can Pink Floyd Picture discs be played, or is this for all picture discs?

I have a set of 6 coming and was just wondering. I don't plan playing them but, one of them is an Echoes one which I like to hear just once.

Pic discs aren't up to the sound-quality standards of regular black vinyl, but can be played a few times without damage. They're mainly made to look pretty.

That is what I thought. What made me ask is I have one that looks like it has got a laminate over the top, which looked like it stop a player from playing it.

The discs are

Ummagumma
Sourcerful of Secrets
DSOTM (Pyramids)
DSOTM (Prism)
Echoes
WYWH (Burning Man)

Is it ok to put a link here (text only)? I can put one to the WYWH pic disc so Rabid Monkey can see what one looks like, if he hasn't seen one before.

You're welcome. I've got a DSOTM picture disc myself.

And sure, you can put up a link.

Yeah, sound-quality wise, there's a slight difference, but they're always worth having. Having said that, it's not enough of a difference to make you not want to hear it. A bit of clunky explanation, but you get the drift, right?

I have seen some forums that don't like external links. This is to my site.

The picture has been compressed quite a bit for those who don't have broadband.

I haven't got them quite yet. I got them off ebay.co.uk. They are in the post.

I wasn't going to get them but they were £42 for all six with 1 minute to go on the auction. There was a last 30 seconds rush by several people. I got them with just 4 seconds to go at £52 for all six. It is very rare to get a set of discs as they are usually separate.

They normally go for around £15-£20 each separately on ebay. They are several on ebay.com right now, type in Pink Floyd picture disc.

I have got them and they are very nice to look at.

If anyone is interested I have some hi res pics (about 450k each and both side A and B) of each of them.

I can put them on my site.

I also played one of the DSOTM discs briefly. It actually sounded better than the DSOTM record I have.

I might have to get another one that is more mint.
