Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

Hmmm... Deicide's lead singer Glenn Benton's a bit of a twat, if I remember rightly.

Kill yourself at 33 you say? Brand a cross on yer forehead huh? Satan's spawn the ka-ka demon (or something very similar).

"Christ"

Cheers,

Mark

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

Nice topic
If you want a band (that currently makes music and dosen't suck or sound like wanna-bes)that soudns remotly like Floyd, try Coldplay. No concepts to albums, but the feeling of the music is the same in some areas.

OH-
For more good rock opera, try:
Tommy by the Who
Bat out of Hell by Meat Loaf
Rent the Musical
-None of these sound like Floyd, but they're rock operas.

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

I can't believe no one mentioned Bela Fleck and the Flecktones! One of the best groups out there!

oh, some other faves (besides the obvious PF):

-G'n'R, NIN, Lovin' Spoonful: Summer in the City, Thievery Corporation, Def Leppard (some, a lot is monotonous), Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, Massive Attack, Smashing Pumpkins, Oleander, Van Halen, the Eagles, Zeppelin, James Taylor, Jethro Tull, Jimmy Buffett, Wynton Marsalis (undisputed King of the Trumpet), Queen, Dave Matthews, Weird Al, John Coltrane, Copland, Gershwin, Phish, Grieg, Dvorak, Nirvana, Radiohead, Steppenwolf...

ok, ok, stopping now or it might continue indefinitely...

Rock on...

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

Ok, ok, I saw that one coming
Some of his stuff is funny, and he is good at the accordion (which, I may add, is REALLY hard to play); he's not up there for the music, but he's still up there for lyrics!

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

Song parodies are ridiculously easy to write. Have you ever tried? It's pretty simple.

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

Well, even if they are easy to write, you still have to be good to write parodies that are enjoyed enough to be bought by the general public.

He's not an all-time favorite but still a giant in the music world; he deserves a bit of respect if nothing else!

(moving on... heh... not working...)

Well, anyway... see ya!
