Well... I don't actually have any answer to that Byron.

Well done,

Mark

Speechless, eh? A first?

I much preferred Cat's "Father & Son" before VestLife got their warbling Oirish gobs on it.

It's gotta be an age thing. It has to be.

Right?

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

hey fixxy in response to your last question concerning portishead, i like them. i don't own any albums yet but i have a lot of downloads. great band. i have a couple of recommendations that i recently discovered and can't take out of my cd player. the first is porcupine tree. a great band. if you like prog rock then check these guys out. its cool that there are still some bands out there embracing classic rock. that said another great band is beachwood sparks. they are like country rock, which i thought i'd never like but i've absolutely fallen in love with the sound. very gram parsons-ish. anyway check it out if you want.

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

Radiochair asked, "What...bands do you think your fellow Floydians would enjoy?" As opposed to other answers, I don't think I have an answer--one that wouldn't seem strange anyway.
For instance, The Ramones are my favorite artists of rock (The Floyd would be #4). Now the reason they are an almost direct contradiction to Pink Floyd is, of course, their music. The Ramones began playing their kind of music because they belived "everything else was just second-generation Elton John..." etcetera and rock was full of "long, drawn-out guitar solos." You see, I think it's pretty strange, but great, that I also enjoy the Ramones, seeing as how Pink Floyd is FULL of "long, drawn-out guitar solos"--this is especially seen when Gilmour took things over in 1986.
My #2 favorite artist is the Talking Heads (duh). Their frontman, the genius David Byrne (who once made the cover of "Time" Magazine), was known for is artistic...well, strangeness. But still, he made sense with his wide musical talent, ranging from bluegrass ("Road to Nowhere") and African polyrhythms ("I Zimbra," "Once in a Lifetime"). Whereas the only member of Pink Floyd, IMO, whose musical talent ranges anywhere besides rock or psychedelic instrumentals is Syd Barrett.
Then comes #3--the legendary CCR (that's Creedence Clearwater Revival to you ). Their blend of gritty barband rock, folk tunes, and Southern creoles sounds extremely different from that of Pink Floyd--yet I still like them.
(The reason I'm telling you this, is whenever I tell someone my favorites bands, they say my taste is limited, yet this begs the contrary.)
Of course Numeral IV is PF, then #'s 5 and 6 are a close race between Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Boss Springsteen's music reflects story-life of America ("The River," "Atlantic City," "Born in the USA"), where Dylan's folk music explores every which way AND loose.
Due to my laziness, numbers 7, 8, 9, and 10 would be, respectively, Bob Seger, Cheap Trick, Journey, and Styx.

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

No. I'm just saying that when I tell people my favorites are CCR, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and The Ramones, many say my musical tastes are "limited." But if you look hard, they all have a wide sound to them.

To quote Edna Krabapple, "Ha!" No, I told you how old I was. I lied to protect myself (child pornographers, they're everywhere. Shhh!).
...Why do you ask on THIS topic?
BTW, to all, I'm 15. The reason I claimed to be older was, see above. It's happened before, man. Yes I know lying is a sin, but "Forgive and ye shall be forgiven" so if anybody's gonna PM me about that, don't bother.

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

Ok. So that shit about your late wife (deleted now, I presume) and being a 'roughnecker' is all bollocks, right? And don't quote me on this, but I'm sure that you mentioned something about being a prospective father also. Not that I had any 'faith' in Christians previously, but you're not doing them any favours as their one singular ambassador on this site.

Anyway,

Mark

Re: Pink Floyd Fan Music Recommendations

I've noticed many people who like Floyd also favor Radiohead. Is it that they sound the same, are their lyrics similar, or what? I might want to give them a listen.
