Re: Radio KRAP

That would be my guess. Since I have no 80's aversion (or ALMOST none) in music, I have no complaints against AMLoR or About Face, and enjoy hearing them. And from what I hear about Identity, I would probably enjoy THAT, too.

Re: Radio KRAP

KAOS could have been a great album, but the production lets it down badly. It not so much that it sounds 80's but it sounds weak and synthetic (Momentary sounds 80's, but certainly does not lack a spacious, powerful production). However, it is supposed to be a series of records played on a US radio station IN the 80's, so that might well be the idea, to make it sound more like a contempory radio broadcast. It's also a little overtly political, with too many references to 'market forces' which can be a bit tiresome, and so on, and not enough musical interest. The Tide is Turning is probably the best track. I think Waters realised what worked and what did'nt on that album, since Amused to Death is like a kind of continuation but a 100 times better album in every way, writing, production, etc.

Re: Radio KRAP

I think KAOS is great - it's a welcome relief to listen to after some of Roger's other work. What I mean by that is that there is a greater sense of humour about KAOS, and a ray of optimism that shines though quite clearly that isn't always that clear in Roger's other works. As far as the music goes...well yes you could argue that it isn't as intersting as other Floyd/Roger albums, but again, it's a relief not to be saturated by guitar riffs and solos. Although I was never a huge fan of the Fairlight, I think it was used very well on KAOS. Roger's vocals are also excellent - he doesn't strain himself and he is very clear in his delivery (no screaming here!).

Re: Radio KRAP

I hate it. Hate hate hate. Every song is a nightmare.

80's aversion? Hell no. I'm a member of a Gary Numan fanclub (love the man!). I like AMLOR (once in a while). I listen to lots of stuff from the 80's. KAOS is just a bad album.

Re: Radio KRAP

How can anyone hate that jivey little sax outro solo on "Sunset Strip?"
The main problem with KAOS is the loopy storyline that the poor listener must struggle with. Also, no great guitar solos, & too much whining about Market forces & the Powers that Be.

Re: Radio KRAP

Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Now, The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking, on the other hand, is much more to my liking. Straight up guitars, good story, lovely flow, fantastic production, incredible grasp of the English language throughout. A masterpiece, in my (oft disputed) opinion.
