Re: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Well, this is sort of my answer to fixxy's "Let's be objective here..." thread; Don't take it as pointless bickering, please, it's just a counterpoint. I've said many times that I'm not here to cause trouble, and I don't intend to start now.

But on with it.

I have an entirely different view of Piper, myself. To me, it's very innocent and upbeat and positive, a stark contrast to the Rog Floyd's last three albums, which, though musically and lyrically superior, come off to me as very negative (with a few exceptions; "Pigs on the Wing" immediately comes to mind). Don't get me wrong, TFC is one of my favourite albums, but it's so fucking depressing, and it's nice to have Piper around to temper that.

Thoughts?

Kev

Re: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Absolutely maan. I mean I definitely feel that Roger Waters is one of the most gloomiest men on Earth right now. His "jaundiced" (I love using that word to describe Waters view) look on the world is unmistakeable. I mean, you can't help smiling or laughing when you listen to bike. It's such a funny piece. Take thy is also very nice. On the whole "free n funny" is what comes to mind.

Re: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Interestingly enough, if you read some of his most recent interviews (I got them from the newsgroup alt.music.pink-floyd), some of the gloom may be lifting. I think his attitude is starting to change a bit, and though I think we'll still be getting the same incisive analysis, I suspect that if "Each Small Candle" is any indication, there may be a little hope this time around.

Re: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

I so wish Syd could have 'stayed among' us and produced many more albums like Piper.
As much as I love post Syd Floyd, Piper remains my favorite album.
As Perceive says, it's innocent, upbeat and
positive.
All qualities so desperately needed for all people.
I think all radio stations should play it simultaneously!

Re: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Piper is my favorite Floyd album by far.
I absolutely love Syd's lyrics.
I wish 'Let's Roll Another One' was released in it's original form. I actually got it off ebay I just havent got it yet. I love the 'unreleased' stuff like 'Vegetable Man'
'Scream Thy Last Scream', 'Reaction In G'
and 'One In A Million'. I'm suree there are others, I just can't rember there names.

Re: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

You pronounce it Pow R Toc H.

Stethoscope is the most annoying track from Piper. Don't like it. Even Roger said in an interview that he regrets it.

Re: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

dont try and pronounce it how it looks, try a different way.
Pow R Toc H

look at it closly, it reckon you can get power touch out of it, which makes more sense than anything else really. Its just an alternative, far out way to name a song from an alternative, far out band.

and its good cos its an instrumental, so u can keep on guessing wat it means

b17, (Great minds, and all...)

I'd always imagined it as Power Touch as well but never bothered to pronounce it to myself nor had the need or opportunity to pronounce it for another.
