Now THOSE are guitars!

The one I own is an Epiphone Gibson model, but it looks exactly like the ebony version of the Les Paul.

Sounds like a sweet deal. Too bad it's an Epiphone Les Paul

I know this will seem a silly question, Fulghum, but don't you have loads of guitars already?

Another silly question: Isn't Epiphone an wholly own subsidiary of Gibson?

And a third: Are Epiphones considered cheaper, or less desirable cousins to their Gibson equivalent?

Epiphone is to Gibson as
Squier is to Fender

However there are some pretty nice Epiphones, but the majority of them suck, IMO. Does that answer your questions?

Point 1) OK, so I have a couple of guitars... I don't have one of these ...yet..

Point 2) Yes, Epiphone is to Gibson as Squire is to Fender. They are the more "affordable" models of Gibsons line, made offshore, but good guitars nonetheless.

Point 3) I'd say the Gibsons are more desireable than Epiphones, yes. But I can afford $500.00 for an Epi, I don't have $3000.00 laying about for a Gibson.

I have played the Epiphone Les Pauls at local shops. As far as feel, weight and action, I have a hard time telling them apart from a Gibson. Sound and tone differ yes, but pickups, pots, and hardware can always be upgraded. Anyway, They sound pretty damn good to begin with.

A luthier (who was a Gibson expert) told me that if you put Gibson Les Paul pickups in an Epiphone Les Paul, no one could ever tell the difference, sound-wise.
