Why not? I would consider it ALL solo. It's a beautiful one at that. But it still doesn't have that certain something that would make me love it even more, simply because Dave isn't playing it.

But at least he wrote it. And he can play it - he played it live. And it sounded nice.

Plus, I think that is considered a solo. The guitar is the dominating line, the only thing you pay attention to.

I don't mean the song, i mean the short solo after the vocal bits, the acoustic bit, that section is just so lovely and peaceful and yet dark and foreboding. I know strictly speaking it probably isn't a normal electric guitar type solo, but it's my favourite guitar section at least (i'd say it is a solo...)

Along with CN and Hey You, ITAOT is the highlight of The Wall for me. Very easy to play, and such a very FULL song even though its all on one instument, a nylon strringed acoustic.

Re: Best guitar solo EVER?

I heard a DJ on one of the local stations here in Salt lake (Salt Lake radio sucks BTW) during a weekend call in show try to compare Jimmy Page and Eddie VH. One guy called in made the comment that

"On a scale of 1 to 100, Jimmy and Eddie would be about a 97 and a 98 (his opinion), both excellent, but very different in their approach to playing."

He went on to conclude his comments by stating later that

"Of course, on that same scale Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dave Gilmour would each rate about 375...."

I just thought I'd pass that along.......

Now that's a bit over-rated, i mean come on... Andrew Latimer is the best guitarist i have ever heard, far superior to Dave Gilmour, and he isn't even mentioned. Not forgetting Steve Hillage, Pye Hastings, Kevin Ayers, Frank Zappa and Doug Boyle, who are all under-rated guitarists (with the possible exception of zappa). When compared to some of those Gilmour isn't THAT good... He still is a great guitaist mind you, but i do belive that he's hugely over-rated...

Re: Best guitar solo EVER?

CNumb - live PULSE version
Time (LOVE that solo - the original, not PULSE)
Shine On, Echoes...

I'm currently hooked on some of Mark Knoffler's older stuff - check out "Telegraph Road" from "Love over Gold" album - I don't mean to rank him alongside DG but its a sweet solo nonetheless!
