I think a good solo is something that compliments the lyrics or the meaning of the song.

OK, I can't do this. One solo of all time? I just can't choose one. I will say though that Santana has always been a great guitarist, and Tom Morello is a close second.

I've probably mentioned this before, best solo ever IMHO is the CN solo on Pulse, especialy if you watch the tape with the ring above dave's head and all the lights on stage and that huge dicso ball unfolding. There's also the outro solo in High Hopes, makes me wanna cry, I almost do...

There is romanian band called Phoenix, and it exists since 1962, and they have a song of folkloric inspiration , "Negru Voda", a song that lasts 15 minutes and it contains guitar solos, bass solos, drum solos and even a violin solo, so my favourite guitar solo is in that song. From international music, i think - Stairway To Heaven and Comfy Numb.

Dave Navarro had some very nice solo's w/ Jane's Addiction. I think the guitar on "three days" from Ritual de lo habitual was excellent among others that i can not think of at the moment. Tom Morello on many songs for RageATM are are also some of the best guitar solos i've heard (especially live). They are definitely two of my favorites, unfortunately Jane's and Rage are both currently inactive as album producing bands. "we heard about the sell out...."

I just downloaded the "Comfortably Numb" PULSE video, so I can now reply to CN's post. It IS amazing, that video and that solo. I always loved the album, and the video is a wonderful addition to the "Comfortably Numb" experience. My, what a sight as the ring of light moved down over Mr. Gilmour! I have other reasons for liking that video as well, but since this is a GUITAR SOLO thread, I won't elaborate here. And, Da Floyd Fan, does that album title mean "Black Water"? (I don't know that language, so I am just guessing.)

The solo during "Any colour you like" is probably my favourite. Mmmmm, emotive.

Nope, it means "Black Prince", a legendary prince and it is said that he was the founder of Valahia sometime back in 1300.

As for non-floyd solos...well, Mick Ronson in Moonage Daydream prolly does the best crying guitar I ever heard... Brian May in ..ahem...most of his solos are fab ![]()
