I loooooooooooove the Mars Volta. I can't say that that solo stands out for me though, they're not really a soloing band on the album (live I wouldn't know).

Of course I agree that there's no BEST solo...

However, I implore everyone to get Maggot Brain by Funkadelic.

This more than rivals My hero Dave in terms of feeling and throughout this 10 minute heartbreaking solo Eddie Hazel goes through every human emotion. You want chills?? This is it.

Whilst all on acid George Clinton told Eddie to play as if his mother had just died and they recorded it all in one take.


If there is one song you download, buy etc it is this one.

I'm always surprised how few people know this band/guitarist.
