One guitar solo that strikes me as one that defines rock and roll is the end solo of Queen's "We Will Rock You." The standard sound to it, that fire, really (IMO) is the definition of late '70's rock.

...Yes, the legendary (?) Foghat.
Anyway, another solo we should look at is the riff from CCR's "Up Around the Bend." (Though it remains true anything CCR or John Fogerty did DEFINES rock and roll, but that's just my opinion...).

Then we must consider Neal Schon's power to play guitar. Just look at Journey's "Only the Young" and "Be Good to Yourself."

We also must consider Mickey Dolenz's talent to play the tambourine, although Davey Jones was the ace at that.
