Re: Roger Waters

People always tell that story without realizing what they're talking about. In the middle of the Wall shows, he didn't have time to RE-tune his bass' bottom string (from D to E) after Another Brick in the Wall, Part Two. He was busy switching to acoustic and then singing the first verses of Mother, so Rick would do it before his entrance on keyboard. Roger most certainly knows how to tune a bass. It's just that neither he or anybody else would sensibly retune a guitar or bass in the middle of a show. The proper thing to do is to bring another instrument along which is already in a different tuning (Roger must have realized this afterwards, as this is what he did for his In The Flesh shows).

yeah, it's not unusual to go to a show and see many different guitars/basses being used. Tuning during a show takes too long.

Re: Roger Waters

Actually, Botley, thats not quite the truth. The story is that in Floyd's early days, he handed his guitar to Rick. Eh, at this point it doesn't really much matter.

Re: Roger Waters

RWr on RWa: "We'd be in D and he was still banging away in E because he couldn't hear it. I had to tune his bass onstage, you know. In those days there were no strobe tuners, so after every number he'd stick the head of his bass guitar over my keyboards and I'd tune it up for him."

Probably not EVERY number... just during the changeover from DADG to EADG. Keep in mind this is the same interview where Rick claims the spitting incident happened in Toronto, so his memory is understandably a little cloudy.

Re: Roger Waters

I've never hailed Waters as an excellent bassist, but what he does play that sticks out I like. Not everybody can play bass like Victor Wooten you know. Wooten. . .Wooden. . .?

Re: Roger Waters

Yeah man, Victor Wooten is the greatest bassist that ever lived. I forget his band name, but I've heard some live solos, and there is no comparison. . .EVER! I'm pretty sure it's spelled Wooten anyway.

Roger is indeed a decent bassist.
I have heard worse though.

Oh, I thought you were replying to my post, not the one about him being tone-deaf.

Re: Roger Waters

Yeah, I actually had just heard of him the day before you wrote that. Pretty awesome stuff.
