Question pink floyd - experimental?

i have to write this 8pg paper for my music history class about experimental music. someone told me that pink floyd is really experimental, so i've decided to write about them, but it's been REALLY hard trying to find sources on them. it's like no one in the academia wrote about them! anyway, i was wondering if any of you know where i can find some good floyd sources to write my paper. online sources would prob be the easiest. i know they're experimental. i just need some evidences! please let me know. thanks for your help!

Re: pink floyd - experimental?

Yes...that would be a very good research paper to write. First few thoughts that come to my mind are they way that they were one of the first groups to do songs over 2:50 (another band that broke the time barrier too, but not so evidently, is The Who). Also, a lot of their music was very instrumentally based...not so lyric heavy as a good deal of music was. They also were one of the first bands to do a concept album (Beatles did a semi-concept album, and The Who did Tommy in '69). But they were the first to have the whole album flow together (ie DSotM), and not neccisarly be a linear story. They also put out more than one or two concept albums, only one of them having a linear storyline (The Wall). Another thing was how they were the first to incorporate synthesizers into their music with great skill and ease.

Hopefully those ideas will give you some starting points--as the others have said, this place is full of crap about that kinda stuff. Welcome!
