You certainly all seem to know a lot about Pink Floyd! I really like David Gilmour! I'm only young but I hope you take me seriously!

Answer me back!

Dave Gilmour? That middle-aged - what was it fixxlevy called his imitators? - "chancer"?

Do me a favour. (j/k!)

But seriously, it's nice to see yet more new blood here to add more flavour to the proceedings.

BTW, I quite like Gilmour as well, but will refrain from calling myself my favourite nickname with regard to Davey boy.

Floyd on!
Byron

Brylcreamandax, do you like David's work in the Floyd or have you tried his solo material ?

Personally, I think the only band member who has produced anything worth while as a solo artist is Roger Waters.

Cheers

Simon

Hi - would it be poss for one of you 'experts' - ok Experts - do a nice little list of what roger sings and what dave sings so that i can join in the discussion about who is the best singer cos they sound almost the same to my ears? Oh and is the live album of ummagumma released seperately so that we dont have to put up with all that awful studio garbage? It was all by itself in my local library but maybe that was just cos they lost the studio part (perhaps someone with very bad taste stole it?). Fixlevvy you shd win the pullitzer for some of your messages.

Hi Desdemona,

It's not that difficult to tell Roger and Dave apart really. Dave's the one who CAN sing and Roger's the one trying desperately to sing. (Rog couldn't sing his way out of a soaked paper bag.)

Also, I believe if you look at the Lyrics & Discography section of this website and scroll down, you'll see who does what. I think.

Oh, btw, welcome.

Floyd on!
Byron

p.s. that fixxlevy geezer gets all the plaudits.

thanks byron, i'll check it out. Perhaps Rog sound better on record than he should cos of technology. The bits i know that he sings i always find quite chilling - technically not a good voice perhaps but emotionally compelling - maybe I'm just hopelessly biased.....incidentally, you're all very entertaining - i enjoy tuning in to this site.

Waht is wrong with David Gilmour?? Why does everyone not like him?? I think the division bell is one of the best albums ever! It's so mind expanding! Everytime I hear it (every day!) it makes me shiver inside :0 and David's guitar solo's really affect me! So emotional! I think the music they made in the seventies is OK, but not really very interesting, or romantic at all! Will Pink Floyd be going on tour this year? I've not been to a "live" concert b4 and would love it to be them that I see for the first time!
BTW who is Syd Barret???

i really doubt that pink floyd will be going on tour anytime soon. syd was the first leader of the band. he came up with the name of the band and he played guitar and also wrote and sang most of the songs. he burned out on acid and was kicked out of the band. he did some solo stuff for about a year and then disappeard from music. sigur ros was this band that i think fixxlevy was trying to push on everyone but i don't think anyone listened.

Desdamoda, you're right in saying Roger can't sing but he certainly has presence and emotion. Actually, I think his voice has got better as he's got older - very strong in last year's In THe Flesh tour.

Brylcreemandax, I don't think anyone here dislikes Dave. We just have different views on whether he had the right to use the Pink Floyd name. And no, I'm not looking to start that debate again ! As for their music from the 70's not being that good/interesting - are you nuts ???

yea, not THAT debate again,

what should you know about Floyd?

listen to the music, and what you feel is what you feel - no one's gonna change that.

Pink Pig, I agree that Roger's voice has gotten stronger in his old age. As for the newcomers, welcome aboard and I am sure we will fill you in on the details as we go along.

BTW, Charade is right, what you feel is the most important part of Pink Floyd's music.
