The latest edition of Uncut features an interview with Roger talking about the making of The Final Cut and the state of the band at the time. I've just got it but I've not read the article yet.

"In a rare and exclusive interview, Roger Waters looks back on the troubled history of The Final Cut - his ambitious anti-war opus and the last album he made with Pink Floyd, recorded against a backdrop of bitterness, anger and frustration."

After following the link, I was more intrigued by the Ryan Adams (no-talent ass clown) story about his website shutting down as a tribute to the end of "Freinds". This is either the sorriest publicity stunt, or he just needs to get a life.

I think it's because of Rog's very low, monotone voice that blends in with everything.

I've always listened to it with headphones on and I could hear it perfectly fine, but I was listening to it in the car yesterday and I couldn't hear a thing. I kept thinking "I don't remember it taking this long for him to come in..." and when I turned up louder I could finally hear him. It's definately a bass issue.

In a way though that does kind of make sense that it would be more inaudible on speakers since it was made for headphones Though one thing is for sure, with the volume turned up in a car with four speakers(Two in front and two in the back) the beginning of Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert was...

Heehee, that reminds me of a story. I like to listen to Pink Floyd with my grandma while in the car and once when I popped in Atom Heart Mother she kind of got a little shocked when the motorcycle was "passing us". "I didn't even see him pass us!"

I think the low volume is done on purpose. Often Waters likes to almost whisper, I think it is part of his concept of the music where he trys to be more like your conscience thinking out loud as oppossed to listening to someone. Further, it adds to the effect in songs like Gunner where it goes from quite to loud for the startling effect. The low voice plays out really well on headphones (lets face it, all Floyd HAS to be on headphones) when you hit lyrics like "they disembarked in '45, and no one spoke and no one smiled, there were too many spaces in the lines".

The remastered version features "When the Tigers Broke Free" I hear, I'd better go out and pick that up.
