Meddle certainly did. Echoes, Seamus, Fearless, Pillow of Winds - the songs on that album, lyrically and otherwise, conjure images of the sea and the air.

Yes. The band did indeed need Roger Waters.

Re: Did the Band need roger waters

I'm sorry man, but I definitely think there was a theme to those albums, much moreso than AMLOR. The Piper was British psychedlia with some nursery rhyme lyrics and nursery rhymish melodies. Atom Heart Mother - I can't describe the theme but it certainly has more of one than ANLOR. Probably mostly because of the huge title track and the final track. The ones in the middle are kind of shoved in there.

You are free to think there's life on the Moon, mate, this doesn't change the facts.

Re: Did the Band need roger waters

Pink Floyd has gone so far downhill after Waters left. We're left with a ton of mediocrity, with a few nice guitar solos tossed in. I think it's safe to say that Waters contributed a lot of the musical and lyrical creativity.

Agreed. But Gilmour and the rest of the band did alright after Roger left. It wasn't the same, but I still think the music was good.

Re: Did the Band need roger waters

Actually I think the band went downhill after DSOTM.. and Roger leaving is what brought it back to a "Lighter Side of the Moon".

I don't think the band needed him as much as he needed the band. My second favorite Floyd album is the Division Bell.

He was 10. Even 11. And that was too much for the band...

They needed him just as much as they need Dave. Dave made them cool. Rog made them deep.
