Even after he left, they needed him to bitch about in their crappy lyrics.

Roger Waters can get nothing less than full marks. He carried the weight.

ROGer Poger, liked to act like a logger, and packed his life away

ROger is the man, and essential to pink floyd, its like asking if you need yeast for baking bread, or if you need shoes to walk in a sandwich

Anyone that doubts Roger's creative genius needs to listen to the wall again. and than again for good measure.

Re: Did the Band need roger waters

Most likey The Band did not need Roger Waters, as they performed and released albums without him having any participation whatsoever (excluding The Wall--Live in Berlin, as he, obviously, did participate in that little fiasco). It is arguable, however, that The Band did need Bob Dylan.

(I know, I'm a smartass).

I've made a nasty habit lately of not reading entire threads before I post--thus looking like a larger ass than usual.

Exactly Right.

Re: Did the Band need roger waters

Sure the band needs Waters, and although waters made many concerts by his own, he didn't convince us that he didn't need the band...Each one needs the other
by the way, I'm a new member, but I wanted to be helpful on my first day

Well, you've got me beat, welcome.

Roger needed the band like he needs lungs, and vise-versa.

Re: Did the Band need roger waters

As far as commercial success or what?

Roger didn't need David, Rick and Nick to be a success. Critically, Hitch Hiking. Amused To Death and In The Flesh were faaaar more successful then AMLOR, Division Bell and Pulse/DSoT.

Commercially we found out that the name Pink Floyd is a better commercial property than the name Roger Waters....that's about it.

Re: Did the Band need roger waters

What a stupid question. He is Pink Floyd. The popular best selling albums were all written by Waters. Momentarty lapse, and Division Bell were fine albums, but they wern't Pink Floyd albums. I mean to say, it didn't sound like Pink Floyd. That is not to say that the other members of the band wern't importrant or talented. Dave is one of the most amazing guitar players ever. Still the driving force, the creative genius of Floyd is all Roger. You can hear it in some of his solo stuff. Listen to 4minutes, Pros and cons (the song), watching tv, home, and towers of faith, and you should be able to hear the similarity. Roger made the clay and Dave sculpted it.

Kennyfloyd.

Re: Did the Band need roger waters

Of course they needed him. In lyrics and songwriting, he was vital. Just listen to what came after he left. It's like coke without rum. Something important's missing.

YES they needed him in my opinion he is the most important member of the band without him they turned into just another FM rock band.
