Well, apparently I made the right choice! Thank you all. Now I don't feel so uneasy about having passed up a good album. I still want it though, as I'm a HUGE Waters fan, but I'm having a darn good time with Animals right now. I've been learning "Dogs" on guitar and the solos on that song are some of my favorite in the Floyd catalog!

I am a fan of all the albums. I cant think of which order I would buy them, but I have had the time to buy the majority of them as they were released lol.. I remember listening to DSOTM on an 8 track.. A new one at that . Anyways, I think TFC kind of builds on the other albums ( to me relates to The Wall ) and it is an essential part of the collection. Though a lot of it sounds may not appeal to most, I love every song on it. However put up against Animals they are really 2 different albums. I remember seeing Dogs played live way back umm in the early 80's (I think) at a Roger Waters concert.. I was an experience I will never forget.

A Roger Waters concert in the early 80s?

All due respect to you though, atimeb4 (nice nick too), and your long-term fanaticism.
Welcome, share and enjoy!

personally i HATE the final Cut. The lyrics rock but the music is shit and the vocals are woeful. You made a good choice.

I too don't like Roger much, although TW and Animals were great, but TFC was too much for me. I love the Gilmore era, like AMLOR and TDB. If you want to try something different, get The Devision Bell, it is unique, and still very good, especialy Wright's Wearing the Inside Out, IMO.

You can't really go wrong buying Animals! Save The Final Cut for completing your Floyd collection.

If you come home and found that you've got a CD that features either Eric Burdon or Anne and Nancy Wilson, you've gone and got it wrong

I heard from someone that it was, in a way, the "sequel" to the Wall. But I don't think that's right. Is it similar to the way Waters was writing around the time of the Wall? I am a fan of that era and I was hoping that I didn't make a mistake.... so tell me... in your opinion, what's better? Animals or The Final Cut?
No, you did not make a mistake. Animals is bloody incredible, their best album. Annoyingly, my copy has gone walkabout, so I must buy a new one soon.

I'm not sure on the final cut, I hope its good because I'm getting it in the post in two days!

It is. Not as polished in the same way that the preceding albums were, but certainly good for playing in the background whilst enjoying a nice spit roast.

Yes, should you be that way inclined (and not too tired). Also, the LP can be used as a frisbee or projectile against zombies in your garden (see Shaun of the dead for details), if one happens to get in by accident. Not a lot you can do with the cassette version.

'Animals' is indeed an essential record to own, but you cannot just forget about Roger's last album with the Floyd crew (minus Richard). Both albums are very important to any Pink Floyd collection. 'The Final Cut' is exactly what it is, the final cut, Roger's final effort with the rest of the members.

Actually, in my opinion, EVERY studio album from Pink Floys is essential for the serious listener. (yes, even 'Ummagumma') Just because 'The Final Cut' is depressing as hell, doesn't mean I don't appreciate it.
