Rolling Stone's "immortals"

The latest Roolling stone mag had the cover of "THE IMMORTALS" the fifty greatest artist of all time. So Stupid me i take a look thinking there would be a nice peice on PF. WRONG!!!

Before i go any further let me just say i understand PF is not for everybody, and god help the ones who can't stand them, but if we are talking the fifty GREATEST artist of all time Floyd HAS TO BE IN THERE SOMEWHERE. They would be in my top ten but not in the top fifty come on, this make me gald i stopped buying this mag. fifteen years ago because of this kind of thing. I know i know this is only a magazine and this magazine has made some dumb list in it's day but for a magazine that was made on knowing the music biz how can this happen

DSOTM....14 YEARS on the top 250 list, let me repeat that 14 YEARS. that by is's self should put them on the immortals list

TPATGOD...one of the greatest albums of the psychedelic 60's

THE WALL...top 3 if not the best concept album ever mad

and i haven't even talked about WYWH, Animals

Well maybe i am looking at this all wrong, maybe there is 50 artist better then floyd lets take a look.

Sam Cooke 16
Jerry Lee Lewis 24
Nirvana 27
Johnny cash 31
The everly brothers 33
Public enemy 44
run-dmc 48

Don't get me wrong i like most of these bands and singers but if we are talking "artist", these people could not hold the jock of PF. and if you look at the list there are morerollingstone.com

anyway i just thought some of you might have some thoughts
thanks for letting me get this out of my system

Just another damn list....

Actually I agree with most on the list... is said most..
Yes, Floyd should be on there (so should Yes for that matter). Not only for the reasons you mentioned Floydvane, but as with many listed, because of their long reaching influence on modern music.

I have a hard time with Madonna & Jacko, they are more commercial than influential. And I never was a big fan of Patti Smith or Run-DMC, so I see room for PF to fit in.

But in the end.. it's just another damn list from Rolling Stone.

That is so typical of Rolling Stone. It makes me sad that that magazine is considered such an authority on music (past and present).

Wow, Nirvana made the list? SHOCKING.
And Public Enemy? Yah, those talentless thugs deserve to be there for sure. Immortal? Public Enemy is and Floyd isn't according to that rag. Just hilarious...

So where is Britney Spears on the list? It wouldn't be a Rolling Stone list without Britney on there somewhere.

I made the pitiful mistake of subscribing to that trash rag in 1990. I knew at the end of my subscription what I still know today. The editors are more hell bent on "making waves" and ratings that they are blind to what "talent" is.

I saw their pathetic excuse for a Top 100. Also the "Top 500" albums as chosen by jackasses who know nothing about a quality record. The magazine sucks and should be pulled off of the shelves, it is a useless rag.

Let me guess, White Stripes are number one? They seem to be pretty obsessed with White Stripes.

Hopefully that's meant to be sarcastic, unless by important you mean challenging the freedom of speech and censorship of music, otherwise they're contributuions to music have been pretty useless

Musically I think their "importance" ranks right up there with Sugar Puff Daddy.

They were quite instrumental in the evolution of rap music, which I happen to like. They helped the acceptance of turntable scratching (which, skillfully done, is about as hard as becoming a good lead guitarist) as a musical instrument in its own right. They made some damn good rap records, and you're right, they did make some bounds in the world of censorship of music. They (along with NWA) made rap a serious form of music.

So I consider them quite important.
