Re: the pros and cons isn't that bad is it

Hi all,
Still a newbie in here, checking out various threads but couldn't resist posting on this one. Pros&Cons would be my 2nd fave album after WYWH, and I adore the concept, lyrics and... the hot blonde on the cover hehehehehe

But seriously, the album stands the test of time too - can't believe it's 21 years old now! Back in '84 when I was 10 (and not really into Pink Floyd apart from chanting "We don't need no ed-u-cay-shun" much to the disgust of my parents) I was watching a music video show here in Melbourne called "Sounds" (hosted by Donnie Sutherland - any Aussies remember this?) and I remember seeing a satellite interview with some fella and a video for his new album. Four years later when my musical taste matured I had a lightbulb moment when I heard that same track and recalled that video I hadn't given much thought to way back then. Never seen it since of course... has anyone else witnessed this music video?

Think I'll go put it on now actually (the album that is)...

Cheers, Dish (aka CouncilAnderson)

Its not bullocks, its just annoying that all of the songs quote them selves musically. Except for Every Strangers Eyes, which is even better on ITF.

Yeah, Every Stranger's Eyes is my favourite song on the album, perhaps even my favourite song of all time - big call, I know. It's very evocative, very moving. I don't think it blows its own trumpet, either.

Overall, Clapton's axe-work is sublime, if different to Dave's; one certainly can't mistake one for the other. If any of you haven't heard the extended 12" mix of the title track, then I'd suggest you do - the solos are certainly unusual.

Dish - which song was the video for? Roger made promos for "Sexual Revolution", "Every Strangers Eyes" and "The Pros and Cons" although the latter was seen more often than the other two.

Hi Botley, it was "The Pros & Cons", and as a 10yo I thought it sounded pretty lame, but even now that's my least liked song on the album. I can't understand the logic in releasing that track as the first single as it is so unlike everything else on there.

When you say that the latter was seen more than the other two, are you saying that they were officially released for broadcast at some stage?

In these days of commercialism, it beats me as to why more bands don't release promotional gems like these on DVD, however good or bad they may be!

Cheers, Dish.

Yes, they were released for public broadcast but soon after "The Pros and Cons" came out Roger managed to alienate MTV and most other music television channels with his outspoken comments. So they were very rarely played. I think he is also against the idea of making videos in the first place, but seems perfectly happy to release longer "video EPs" to promote his albums. There are plenty of bootleg DVDs available online which compile these if you're willing to look for them.

Pros and Cons is a great album. I only wish I could have attended one of the live shows!
