It has been over six years since I have experienced this, and it really was magical.
this is exactly how i feel. every now and then a little herb can enhance the experience of floyd in a huge way. the music takes on a new depth and texture, it encompasses you. there is no one and nothing but you and the music. the only way to listen to floyd stoned is alone in the dark, or maybe with a close friend or two. the way i like to look at it is, that it gives you an opportunity to give your brain a break from the everyday hassles of regular life.
on the contrary, in the wrong situation and state of mind, weed can cause many more problems, including creating a frightening sence of paranoia. for example, i try not to smoke at concerts or times like that because it can be an overwhelming experience. just imagine, if you can be held spellbound by certain previously undetected aspect of songs that you have heard hundreds of times, just try to comprehend the neural overload that would result in your dazed brain trying to analyze all of those out of control nueral firings. i prefer smoking up alone, or with a few close frineds and listening to floyd.

Regardless of their true personal beliefs on this, (and I have no reason to doubt what they say) P F has no choice but to cover their asses.

Were they to condone LSD or MaryJane trips while listening to their music, can you imagine how quickly a blizzard of lawsuits would arise blaming them for some losers' drug habits?

Everyone has to remember that in this day and age of "no personal responsibility" there is an ocean of "whiplash willies" just looking for someone with deep pockets to sue.

Sorry, hopper17, but my opinion is that this is a duplicate thread. Please take a few minutes to read the Forum Rules & Guidelines, and we'll all live happier, more productive lives. (At least, I will )

Thread merged.

Re: pink floyd on drugs

Why is hopper17 catching flak for posting on this thread?

Having been started in Aug 01, this is probably the original Floyd-drug thread!

He/she obviously used the "search" function. Give the guy a break!

Yup, that's why I merged his new one into this older one. Don't worry about it, hopper17, it's just that we've done these subjects a bunch of times.

Re: Pink Floyd & DRUGS!!!!

I'm not into drugs myself, and I don't usually think ill of people who use them since it's a personal choice.

But one thing that really bothers me is when people confuse the influences behind Pink Floyd's music with drugs.

Example:

Believe it or not, I have some friends who use drugs that believe that Comfortably Numb is about being high... I try to explain to them that the song is about a bleek view of capitalism and the society in which we live, but they refuse to listen.

I mean, good art can be appreciated in many ways, so more power to them, but we shouldn't discount the band's true intentions. We should respect them and try to keep them alive.

Re: Pink Floyd & DRUGS!!!!

Your druggie friends seem, in CN's case, to be focussing mainly upon the "...just a little pin prick...[PLING]" and nothing else in respect of that song. Sheer stubborn self-delusion.

Huakkk!! IMHO,using Or Abusing drugs by any one is purely personal ( no matter how ridiculous eg:saying CNUMB advocates habit!).I for myself aint no saint but having tasted a seed of lotus, and having flown on an effervescent pachyderm; the effect of certain cough syrups(Codeine enriched),chasing white horses on golden sands etc. can make certain forms of music too enhightened. Now if the music was already such kind (read PF) the f/x could vary from Great Visuals to Numbing Disorientation. But once the body has been wrecked form the usage of drugs whats the point ?We as civil and sane persons should not encourage such attitude.Let there be light.Young Minds Corrupt too easy.
Yada, yada bah, bah, and other verbal marathons.
