Re: some art rock history

go to www.thewho.net. they were among the pioneers of pop art rock with stuff like anyway anyhow anywhere and other early things. Also take a look at the cover of there second album "A quick one" and you will discover that the beatles are not neccesarily the ones who invented pyschedelic rock, they just made it famous.
look at the kinks as well, they were another pop art band. for other pop art groups check out makingtime.co.uk for a good listing of UK pop art bands in the sixties. good luck on the report.

Re: some art rock history

Jethro Tull would probably fit the genre too.

Re: some art rock history

yeah i know im asking for web sites right after saying how the internet sucks, and beleive me the irony is not wasted on me. I guess i should have said that google was not being much help, and i dont have the kind of time to go to the library.

the velvet underground will definitly be on the roster, as will the who. I mean how can you even mention a concept album without bringing up tommy.

my biggest problem is drawing a line between prog and art rock.
Obviously there is a difference in sound but i need to explain it in words.(not to mention i would like to know the technical difference for myself as well) is there a line there, or are the two too close to give a final word?

thanks allot for the help so far too guys(and gals)

Re: some art rock history

Site design's a bit 1993, but Gong were once contemporaries of Soft Machine, Floyd, Hawkwind et al.

I'd like to personally recommend Flying Teapot, the first of the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy.

Sounds ludicrous, I know, but they're only a short hop from what Lemon Jelly represent now.

LOL @ the "You'll weep". I had actually thought that art and prog rock were the same thing. Just like on a somewhat-related topic, I thought that art and prog metal were the same thing
