| Re: Meaning of the song Wish You Were Here Wish You Were Here is my favourite song, as is the album, and I was just wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to what the lyrics mean. Cheers |

| Re: Meaning of the song Wish You Were Here They're all contradictions in term. The song alludes to the original founder of the band, Syd Barrett, an inspired wee bloke who had a bit of an original take on things, musically. Unfortunately, he took too many drugs and lost it. He was replaced within the band by David Gilmour, guitarist and joint vocalist. The lyrical dichotomies within the song refer to Syd's mindset, in as much as he is near, yet far at the same time. Cheers, Mark

| Re: Meaning of the song Wish You Were Here I always considered it a song about friendship, andd a very particular friendship (in fact, I always conidered WYWH as a very personal album for PF). It' like a song written to that friend he once had and changed it all for fame and money, and in that song he is asking "was is worth taking?" to that friend who's know in a lead role in a cage(Perfect way to say what being a Rock star is about)... Maybe that's why it's acoustic, to get rid off the equipment a rock star uses, and returning to a more basic gear, like the begginings of rnr, or even before that And yes, it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written(the lyrics and gilmour's voice makes me almost cry EVERY time I hear it)

| Re: Meaning of the song Wish You Were Here I always assumed it was about a goldfish and his turtle friend. Goldfish have very short memories and when he swims to the other side of the bowl he thinks he has lost his turtle mate and gets all sad. I think most of the lyrics fit this very well.
