Re: Songwriting Tips

I guess there's no use trying to force it out. Might want to give your mind a break and chill out, and come back to it in a few hours/days/however long you need. This site's got a lot of great articles about songwriting: http://www.guitarnoise.com/songwriting.php

Re: Songwriting Tips

Just think about something you feel strongly about and let it flow. it doesnt even need to rhyme, though it is better that it does but alot of bands nowadays make millions just by clearing their throats on a record, but you dont wanna go down that road. Usually i just think of something off the spur of the moment and write it down and hope it sounds good.

Re: Songwriting Tips

I'll ususally lay down the melody first then the lyrics.. I have occasionally worked the other way around, but rarely.

I do collaborate with others, not only do we ususally put out a better tune, but's it's more fun.

Re: Songwriting Tips

I've got the same problem too (with lyrics) - only, everything I write sounds pretencious to me. I think it's awesome when I first write it, but then I start to ask myself 'Who the hell would care about this anyway?' and ignore it.

Re: Songwriting Tips

Don't sell yourself short Shane.

I believe it was james taylor who said "I think it's a curious phenomenon that the most intimate and specific songs are the songs that most people seem to be able to relate to."
