I agree. Roger has a great voice -- hell, he has many great voices. But too much of one voice can become a little, well, let's just say that there needs to be more than one person singing on a Floyd record.

To me, Pink Floyd has never been one distinct voice, but many different voices. That is one of the negative points of The Final Cut -- it's all Roger. Just as A Momentary Lapse is all David.

I think The Final Cut may have done better with a little help from David Gilmour on the vocals -- and a couple more guitar solos, geeez.

Re: The Final Cut Live...do You Know ?

Dave does sing on "Not Now John." And takes maybe one too many guitar solos for my liking.

Re: The Final Cut Live...do You Know ?

Is that David -- I'll keep that in mind next time I listen.

How many guitar solos on The Final Cut?? Let's see, one on "Possible Pasts", then "Fletcher Memorial" -- surely that's not it. Maybe one or two more.

Re: The Final Cut Live...do You Know ?

Dave takes solos on "The Final Cut" title track and "Not Now John" as well.

The videos made were for "The Gunner's Dream," "The Final Cut," "Not Now John," and "The Fletcher Memorial Home."

Re: The Final Cut Live...do You Know ?

I've heard by that point that Roger was even writing daves solos note for note. what do you guys think? some of his stuff on TFC doesn't quite sound like daves usual style, but maybe its just me. the only track where he sounds like he had some freedom was NNJ

Re: The Final Cut Live...do You Know ?

I think to a certain extent Roger was dictating what direction the solos should take (like for example "okay, at this bit you double-track a second line a third above," in Fletcher) but note-for-note is a bit extreme... I don't think Roger could even read music until later on (it would be impossible to write something like Ca Ira without being able to notate to some extent).

Hey is it true that Richard Rite was fired for the Wall? I think the wall is one of pink floyd's strongest albums. Does anybody here agree? also, what's the full versoin of "leave them kids alone" i heard this weird part at the beginning once.

Yes, I believe Richard Wright was fired during the recording of The Wall...for what Roger has said "Being lazy"

Re: The Final Cut Live...do You Know ?

Basically, Rick started using a lot of coke.

And he also got lazy - he hadn't really contributed greatly to the music since WYWH.

During the sessions for The Wall, Wright was given lots and lots of time to come up with some keyboard or piano parts, and he contributed nothing. He was kept on for The Wall tour, and was credited as part of the band, although he just filled out the role of live player. Rick claims it's just more evidence of Waters' megalomania though, so it depends on who you believe.

It's the single version (last UK number 1 of the 70's, first of the 80's!) lol

Just what you don't hear on the album, because of the end of The Happiest Day Of Our Lives going straight into the first verse.

You can get it on A Collection Of Great Dance Songs (for the full version)

Or hunt down the original 7" single (for the edited version, that fades out during Dave's solo) I bought a Dutch version for £8.

Also failing that, find The Marquee compilation album released in the eighties, (its got the edited version on it)

There's a couple more tracks from The Wall and The Final Cut which were released as singles and B-Sides where you can hear stuff not on the album:

Young Lust (Drum intro)

One Of My Turns (You can hear the intro as it's not being crossfaded from Young Lust, and the end doesn't segue into Don't Leave Me Now)

Not Now John (Has a dubbed version as Dave swears)

There are also some lame faded out versions of Comfortably Numb and Run Like Hell.

Sorry for going off on one but I'm extremely bored!

Yep, Dave went back into the studio to sing the word "STUFF" over top of all the f-bombs in Not Now John. He sings over Roger's voice too (the first word of the last verse)... that always makes me cringe. I wonder if he hired the backup singers all over again too, or just sang their parts falsetto!

The best part, though, is you can still make out the "fuc---" very faintly underneath the overdub! Way to go Dave!

There are also radio edits of:

Let There Be More Light
It Would Be So Nice
One of These Days
Fearless
Time
Money
Us and Them
Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Have A Cigar
Pigs (Three Different Ones)
Run Like Hell
Learning To Fly
The Dogs of War
One Slip
On the Turning Away
Take It Back
Keep Talking
Lost For Words
High Hopes

Actually, not. According to various reports it seems that his guitar parts were the only ones where David was free. And it sounds pretty reasonable.

Basically, that's pure speculation.
