Zeppelin remasters

Hey Floydians, I know this isn't everyone's main area of expertise, but I figured it would be a fitting place to ask.

I've done some research and I'm trying to figure out which set of Led Zeppelin remasters to start buying from. Yes, shocking, but I don't own any Zeppelin albums. Anyhow, from what I can tell there's three sets:

1) The original set of CDs, which were released in 1990, and are probably the worst sounding ones.
2) A set of remasters from 1994.
3) The new 2003 ones with the mini-LP cardboard gatefold sleeve, which claim to be limited editions.

So, I guess my question is which one do I get? I'm tempted to get the newer ones since the sound is probably better, but I don't want to start buying those, decide to buy all Zeppelin's albums, then find out that the rest of them have gone out of print.

So, should I stick with the 1994 ones or go with the new cardboard ones?

Get the ones that Pagey remastered in 1990. They're pretty definitive.

Really? They're better than the 1994 ones for sound quality and original artwork?

Aren't the 94 ones just the tracks that they didn't get round to putting out in 1990?

No, I mean the albums. Not the 2 CD set titled "Remasters".

For example, here's Zeppelin II from 1994:

And one from 1990:

Hey, I've borrowed a few from a friend. If you could post the catalogue numbers of the ones you have, so I could compare, that would be great.

I have II-III on the '94 remasters. I have IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti on the original '90 versions. From what I can tell, the old ones don't sound bad, just somewhat hollow. You could probably make the '90 versions sound just as good as the '94 versions just by adjusting the EQ on your CD player. But I just traded in my old "Meddle" for the remastered one, and the new one sounds a hell of a lot better.

I've got a russian pressing of Houses of the holy on vinyl, which actually sounds as good as any CD. It's a shame the sleeve is made of toilet paper, almost, but you can't have everything.

Personally, I have all of the 1994-issue albums, I haven't heard the cardboard-bound ones but I'd guess that they offer marginally better sound quality over the older ones. Definitely better quality in the artwork reproduction department! I mean how cool is the mini-gatefold thing? They've issued those for Pink Floyd and Queen as well, but I've never had enough coin to pick one up and compare its sound quality.

The whole vinyl replica reissue remastering thing was a load of bollocks...they're just the 1994 remasters.
