Re: Pickups

Personally:

I'd upgrade the pickups on the Squier. Wait, get the American strat also, then add the upgrdaded pickups from the Squier to the USA Strat, and the factory pickups from the USA Strat to the Squier. But it all depends on which guitar plays better (which I would assume is the USA Strat).

Re: Pickups

If I were you, I wouldn't waste money on upgrading a strat. Just save your money and buy a better guitar. The lowest I'd upgrade with is a Fender standard strat.

Re: Pickups

Well, I'm not sure what the market is over there. But that sounds kind of high for me. Here in the U.S., one can get a set of 3 Custom Shop Texas Special pickups for about the same price as you're paying for 3 standard USA Strat Alnico V's.

I have a 2001 USA Strat, and the pickups are ok, but not quite what I want. Very noisy when I want some soul, and kind of light when I want screaming distortion. But I'm no pro on this, obviously.

And I believe I misunderstood you earlier. I thought you were going to get the USA strat AND upgrade your current guitar. But I'd really rather just get the real USA Strat. Either way it looks like you're going to end up with the same pickups either way, but with a much better guitar.

DG20

I gor the DG20 set yesterday and am very disappointed with it. No wonderful tone just extra noise, atmospheric hiss etc. Makes playing not much fun. Nothing Floydian there at all. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong and any thoughts would be appreciated... or I'll soon be binning the unit. By the way, I paid £350 for the DG20 - seems steep. Was I done?

Re: Pickups

I wouldnt go for the DG20 system unless I had a huge effects loop and a powerful amplifier.

Active pickups + small amp == Crap.

Seriously.

Dude, dont get pickups, get a new guitar!

Re: Pickups

Thanks for your comments - I'm playing an American series strat through a Boogie F50. I imagine the guitar should be fine? ... although the F50 at home has always seemed a bit loud, even before the DG20.

Re: Pickups

Ablaze - are you happy with the sound you're getting? What else are you playing through?

ADO - grounding looks fine. Interestingly the instructions with theDG20 tell you not to connect the wire which would normally ground the strings.

Had another shot last night and found it slightly better if volume control not turned up above about "2". I've never played any guitar without volume full on. Whatever, I don't think the DG20 adds anything positive and would be interested to hear if anyone has had good results with it.
