Pickups

Well, im thinking of putting some good pickups on my squire strat
I dont have the money for a strat yet, and if the pickups wont cost me that much im thinking of it.
Well heres what i want to know. What sort of pickups does gilmour use (i know he uses different ones in his life, but what would give me the standar sound, the one he used longest)
What strat pickups should i get? http://www.fender.com/products/show....tno=0992130001
http://www.fender.com/products/show....tno=0992000000
One of these?
How much will it cost me?

Thnx

Re: Pickups

On the P.U.L.S.E tour, Dave's red Strat uses the power of EMG active pickups. Dave has a signature pickup set that you can buy. Since you're a norwegian, check out www.marios.no -> gitar/bass -> pickups -> EMG -> Pro -> EMG DG20
Thats his signature set...

For you English-speaking, check out this link!

Also chek out www.gilmourish.com!

Re: Pickups

Are his signature anything for me? Because im probably going to get myself a american strat in about a year, so i tought that i could get me some pickups just for the waiting, and when i get my strat i can chose which ones i want to use. The ones i listed from fender, are they good? Cheaper then the emgs?

Re: Pickups

Tarin is right. I took a cheapie Lotus Strat knockoff that I bought for about $150.00 in 1985 and dropped a DG20 set in it. The difference was night and day. The guitar always has played well, it has a great neck (luck for me I guess), but the sound and tone was weak. By adding the DG20 it completely changed that guitar, it was (is) an awesome axe. I also upgraded to Schaller tuners when I added the DG20 as well.

Re: Pickups

If all you are looking to do is upgrade your pickups at a reasonable cocts, then the Fenders that you indicated are a good choice. I like Seymour Duncan's myself. They will run about the same costs as the Fenders but I think they have a better sound, cleaner tone and better low end.

A friend of mine uses DiMarzios and really seems to like them as well. He sounds great, but plays more metal/grunge/overdrive than I do.

Well, not if you don't use to much money, since you are getting an american strat soon...

Re: Pickups

The choice is yours, we are not going to decide for you.

It's never a bad idea to upgrade a guitar. As long as the neck is in good shape, the action is where you like it, and it has a reasonable amount of sustain (to your liking anyway), it will be worth it in the long run to upgrade your pickups.

As you may have noticed, more that few of us here have more than one guitar. It's OK to have a few.. They all sound different and play slightly differently.

You speak as if your time on this world is limited to the next year..Unless your not telling us something , it's not.. If you want to upgrade your pickups, then do it. If you want an American Strat, then get one. Don't be so impatient though. All things come in their time.

Re: Pickups

Yeah, you right. Any of you know how the price are on the seymour and fender pickups? Are the EMGs much more expensive? I dont seem to find a norwegian page with the other pickups, only the emgs.

Edit : It does seems like i have trown away the idea of getting EMGs. They are just to expensive for my squire, but now im thinking of some vintage pickups. To get that early dave sound, echoes etc. Which one should i get?

Re: Pickups

Word of advice:
Don't buy pickups to try and get a sound that an artist has. That's not how you play guitar, unless you're going to be in a cover band. I'd take your guitar and spend some more time with your current pickups, try to develop a sound that you like, then upgrade your pickups if you don't like it, and try and get a better tone/sound out of that. There's nothing wrong with learning a few songs by your favorite aritst, but trying to sound exactly like him defeats the purpose the playing guitar... Just listen to the records if that's what you want.

Re: Pickups

Ablaze: get what you want. I can't.. no I won't tell you what to buy.. it's your axe, it's your sound.... make a decision..

Ensaepit: welcome to our little world.. glad to see another guitar player round here.. I don't want to be harsh, but Ablaze is attempting to clone himself into another Gilmour.. your last post may be a waste of keystrokes, even hough it full of GREAT ADVICE...... that many of us have already offered..

Re: Pickups

Actualy, i dont think you get my point. Since its not easy for me to try out pickups etc, im asking you how they sound. And when i ask if its a vintage pickup, then im asking does the vintage pickup sound like that? Hey but if you dont wanna help me, ill just take it some other place, but my point is you guys dont need to think too much over what you are telling me to buy, or not telling me. Im just interested in what people think. And as you say it, its my choice to try to get daves sound or not, actualy im not trying to get his sound, what im trying to is to get some advice on what pickups i should buy. And i freekin cant try them myself. Its impossible at my location.
