Sorry to say but I can't chose, they're two different, two individual sounds. Allthough they wouldn't have been Pink floyd without the early influences of Barrett, niether would they have been without Gilmours later influences. But could they have been without Mason, Wright and Waters. Really guys, this comparison is ludicrous.

Syd isn't even in the same league as David is technically on the guitar imo. Syd was a good songwriter, but then I think Gilmour's an even better one.

I choose Barrett, because he started the band and gave it direction. Not that I have anything against Gilmour, he did great things for the band too. Gilmour is a better guitarist, but as far as songwriting goes he is not in the same league as Barrett. (That's my opinion anyway)

I prefer Gilmour. I think he has a better range of singing. I could hear him singing pretty much anything from their collection.
