As I mentioned in another thread, I bought Crime of the Century and Even In The Quietest Moments... by Supertramp the other day. Crime is really good, with my favourites at the moment being the title track and "If Everyone Was Listening". Even In... is good too although I haven't listened to it as much as Crime yet so the only two tracks that really stand out at the moment are "Give A Little Bit" and "Fool's Overture". Although I've been told by others in the other thread to get Crisis? What Crisis? next, I think I'm gonna go with Breakfast in America since it's got a lot of tunes on it that I already know and really enjoy, especially the title track.

The latest CDs I bought were mostly re-buys: PF's 'Animals', Radiohead's 'Kid A', and Nirvana's 'From the Muddy Banks of the Wiskah' (live CD). Also got the Beatles 'Anthology 3' used. I lost the second disc of my first copy a long time ago.

As to new cds, I had an unexpected urge to revisit some of the bands of my youth the other day so I got Judas Priest - Live In London. Rockin'. Last edited by Dr Cheese; 05-01-2004 at 07:50 AM. |

Yesterday I got Led Zeppelin IV, I didn't have particularly high expectations for it, which is good, otherwise I think I would've been a little disappointed. First off, the production sucks, flat out sucks, in numerous songs the guitar drowns out the vocal and makes Robert Plant's voice damn near indecipherable. On "When the levee breaks" it sounds like the first recording I ever made in my garage with an ancient tape recorder, not to mention the dull plodding beat gets irritable even before the vocals kick in. Robert Plant's orgasmic moans get tiresome early on, as in two minutes into "Black Dog". That's some of the bad, now some of the good, I like "Black Dog" even with that typical repetetive Zeppelinesque song structure. I don't like the solo but its a catchy tune. "Rock In Roll" is just a flat out good song. "The Battle of Evermore" is a slower bit that has a certain foggy mystical epic sound to it. "Stairway to Heaven" well, what's to be said that hasn't already been said? An incredible song. The rest of the album is so-so for me, "Going to California" is pretty good and suffers from the previously mentioned production woes, although I thought it would be longer. All in all a fairly decent album, worth the price of admission.

Just got Exile by Gary Numan, had to special order it. Nothing like Numan's synthesizer conceivement. Instead of soaking the music in - The music soaks you in . . . very gary.

I downloaded Zappa's Roxy & Elsewhere and Bongo Fury CDs. Roxy is in my top 10 CDs list, with it's insane avant-funk ramblings and experimental arrangements. Very good brass playing! Bongo is the perfect fusion of Zappa and Beefheart and sounds great despite the two's disliking towards each other during then. Worth it just for the insane guitar solo after Muffin Man.

I've just got Walk On Water by UFO, one of my favourite bands from the late '70's, I was astounded by how good it is, 20 years on and they sound just as good. Michael Schenker is a criminally underrated guitarist I reckon. Walk On Water Last edited by Dr Cheese; 05-05-2004 at 07:01 PM.
