Re: The New CD Thread

Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue (The 2 CD Legacy edition including the Bambu Sessions and lots of interesting info)

Dennis was one of Brian's brothers. Though people viewed him as just a raver and a mediocre drummer, little by little he developed a talent to compose haunting melodies based on some terrific chord progressions. He just came second to Brian as a composer within the Beach Boys.

Pacific Ocean Blues mixes melancholic balladry with some rock, funk, gospel and whatever Dennis could get hold of. For me it may not be as good as Pet Sounds or Smile but it is far better than almost anything The Beach Boys published from 1967 onwards. Even if you are not much into the Beach Boys you may enjoy this record (it doesn't sound much like The Beach Boys after all...)

I have ordered that one. I never heard it but I just have a feeling it's a great one.

Re: The New CD Thread

I recently bought Pacific Ocean Blue as well as Pet Sounds and Smile.

Pet Sounds is my favorite of the three. I dig Smile but sometimes it's just too weird and not as beautiful as I want it to be.

Other recent purchaces include Lil Wayne's tha carter III, Dr Dre's Chronic, "Another Side of Bob Dylan", and Spiritualized's "Songs in A&E"

Re: The New CD Thread

I got Pacific Ocean Blue in the mail today and it's a lovely album just as I thought it would be.

I also got Scott Walker's The Drift which is not so lovely and more like psychological thriller, but unlike anything you ever heard before and pure art.

And then also David Sylvian's Secrets of the Beehive which is a very nice autumn album. My favourite time of the year, which is coming up again.

September's here again

Well, almost. Gotta love it.

Re: The New CD Thread

Camel's remastered "The Snow Goose" with bonus tracks.

I'm just rediscovering this great band to which I hadn't paid much attention before.

I love this album so much. It's just so perfect from the beginning until the end. Never heard the remastered version, I only have it on vinyl, but I've been thinking about buying the CD. Are the bonus tracks worth it?

Re: The New CD Thread

Well, not much really. They are mainly single edits of "Rhayader" and "Flight of the Snow Goose". The last two are interesting though because they are early live performances of "Snow Goose" material before it was released ("Rhayader Goes to Town", "The Snow Goose" and "Freefall" from "Mirage" as well). I had prefer all the bonus tracks to be taken from this early performance but... it's a great classic anyway. I think I'll go for "Moonmadness" and "Mirage" next.

Guess I'll borrow it from a friend before buying it. And you should definitely listen to more Camel albums, especially the ones you listed. Lady Fantasy on Mirage is probably one of their best work, the end is just, how can I say...epic
