Re: "Money" by the post-Waters Floyd...

No, just that one. Apparently the US record company had some contractual problem with releasing material from DSOTM on a best-of compilation (the Floyd changed record labels just before Wish You Were Here). So to sidestep that Gilmour re-recorded Money from scratch, playing all the instruments himself (except the Sax solo which was another take from Dick Parry). It's not bad but a really pointless exercise if you think about it.

A rather poor cover, I'd say.

Yes, I heard this and thought it was terrible. Just goes to show that a lot of the magic left with Waters.

But I'll tell you what I hate almost as much, if not more, it's the female background singers singing on "Welcome To The Machine" on Roger Waters "In The Flesh" DVD, CD.

Don't get me wrong a little woo-woo and some chick background singers never hurt anything but some songs sound way better without it...."Welcome To The Machine" being one of them.

I agree about the Welcome To The Machine BG singers. Annoyed me too.

I was also slightly annoyed on that DVD when performing 'Mother' that the girl sang the 'Hush now baby baby, don't you cry' parts, but she was good at it so I let it slide. I just would have preferred Roger to sing it.

No I don't think so! Personally I find Water's version of Money on In The Flesh equally as annoying with the female backing singers. I also aint too keen on his versions of originally Gilmour sung songs like Time and Wish You Were Here. I find that he just can't do them justice (maybe not so much Time, but definitely WYWH). I also hate the edited version of Shine On! What was he thinking? On the plus side, Each Small Candle and Set The Controls are fantastic. God, this is turning into a In The Flesh thread...!!

Yes, the 80's Pink Floyd version of "Money" isnt half as good as the DSOTM version, Mason slightly changed the beat though and that was kind of interesting.

What I meant was not that the muscianship was lessened or weaker, but the magic left.

This kind of treatment to classics reminds me of when I was a kid and they turned my favorite Batman action figures into "SUPER ULTRA BATMAN!" with all these ridiculous colors and fancy futuristic additions. You know what I mean?

Re: "Money" by the post-Waters Floyd...

The extended middle bit wasn't an invention of the post-Waters Floyd: In the DSoTM tours immediately after the release of the album they had a ridiculously long bit in the middle, and probably have just done this ever since.

The DSOT is amazing, the bass solo is class, and the call and response thingy is cool too. Then gilmour comes backin with an awesome solo.

I agree that Welcome to the Machine was butchered on ITF, but at least he made up for it by adding life to that god awful song named Set the controls for the heart of the sun.

Am I the only one who like the ITF version of "Welcome to the Machine"?
