a short little poem

A guy I knew from high school was in the air force died last week, one of those real special people, so I was trying to think of think of something to write about him and came up with this, not sure if it all makes sense but its what came,

A Little Less Than Ordinary
A staggered smile
A toothy grin
A joke, a laugh, a one night spin
Too strange to the ones who had less
Walking tall with the light
Around those who smile and admire
Something special perhaps
A little better than average joe
What it is we'll never know
Flying high with the elite
Falling greatly beneath the heap
Running, jumping, dancing away
Under the sun where it all turns grey
Someday we'll see the walrus, the toothy grin, the wry smile,
here the echo of the purple haze,
but not today, not today.
