| Guitar sound on Live at Pompeii - Saucerful of secrets Have to say i LOVE that sound dave gilmour does as rick is playing the keyboards, as it all gets to a progressivly larger sound. I just have no idea what exactly he does. I dont have a slide (yet) but i had tried a couple of things (such as bottlenecks) just to see if i can recreate the sound dave makes, and I am just not able to get the sound... Does anyone have any idea how to recreate this sound?  |

| Re: Guitar sound on Live at Pompeii - Saucerful of secrets Get a steel slide and rub it up-and-down over the fret you so desire. Works best on the high E string, in the upper register of frets. |

| Re: Guitar sound on Live at Pompeii - Saucerful of secrets Put a little echo on there. Also turn up your amp, put on a good distortion on, and turn the volume on your guitar to 2 or 3, where the sound just begins to come up. Gives it that eerie, slightly overdriven sound. |

| Re: Guitar sound on Live at Pompeii - Saucerful of secrets Having got hold of a steel slide, and followed your instructions, i still find im not able to get that sound. Or at least i am, but I have a feeling that Dave must use a weird tuning for it. As far as i know he didnt tend to do that, but does anyone know if he did for that song, and what it was. Cheers!  |

| Re: Guitar sound on Live at Pompeii - Saucerful of secrets Well, it's a sound that only really comes out if the amp is turned up. He also used an odd kind of slide on Pompeii, a solid one used for pedal steel, as it looks. It might have a rougher finish, and would make it easier for those applications. Ah well, good to be of service anyway. |
