Exclamation Make your own "The Best of Floyd!"

Echoes: The Best of Floyd is frusturating in that it captures MOST of their best work but still leaves some key tracks (On the Turning Away) and some key albums (Atom Heart Mother) out. So how would you have done it? You get 2 CDs, 80 mins. each. Go at it!

CD 1

1. Astronomy Domine (Barrett) - 4:12
2. The Gnome (Barrett) - 2:13
3. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun (Waters) - 5:28
4. Cymbaline (Waters) - 4:50
5. Careful With That Axe, Eugene - Ummagumma version(Gilmour/Mason/Waters/Wright) - 8:50
6. Summer '68 (Wright) - 5:29
7. One of These Days (Gilmour/Mason/Waters/Wright) - 5:56
8. Echoes (Gilmour/Mason/Waters/Wright) - 23:27
9. Time (Gilmour/Mason/Waters/Wright) - 7:06
10. Money (Waters) - 6:32
11. Wish You Were Here (Gilmour/Waters) - 5:34

CD 2

1. Shine on You Crazy Diamond [Echoes Edit](Gilmour/Waters/Wright) - 17:32
2. Pigs on the Wing, Pt. 1 (Waters) - 1:25
3. Dogs (Gilmour/Waters) - 17:08
4. The Happiest Days of Our Lives (Waters) - 1:51
5. Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2 (Waters) - 3:59
6. Mother (Waters) - 5:36
7. Hey You (Waters) - 4:42
8. Comfortably Numb (Gilmour/Waters) - 6:24
9. Not Now John (Waters) - 5:02
10. Learning to Fly (Carin/Ezrin/Gilmour/Moore) - 3:53 [custom edit - cut out a minute from the middle ]
11. On the Turning Away (Gilmour/Moore) - 5:39
12. Coming Back to Life (Gilmour) - 6:19

I had to cut out 'Young Lust' due to time constraints

go here www.allmusic.com to get the track times, etc.

Re: Make your own "The Best of Floyd!"

Me too.
Anyway I would:
take all the stuff from "Echoes";
add a few songs (Mother, Dogs, Have a Cigar, etc);
reset all the songs in chronological order.

Re: Make your own "The Best of Floyd!"

I am firmly anti-best of. Especially for Pink Floyd. I say don't waste your money on a PF best of...go buy Animals and Meddle (or some 2...ya know). This is also why I just can't put my music on random, or listen to mixes. Every album has a heart and soul, and needs to be heard the way they were made, in that order (that's especially true for Floyd albums).

Re: Make your own "The Best of Floyd!"

I just realized that was semi-irrelevant....but all the same...trying to create a "Best of" for the Floyd, limited to 160 mins, would likely drive me insane.

Re: Make your own "The Best of Floyd!"

I've had the Total Eclipse for over 8 years. It's good. But "best of's", are too commercial for me. Echoes pissed me off when released. It cheapens music, same went for Bob Marley.

"Learning To Fly" (cough-overrated-cough) or "ABITW pt 2" (cough-samereason-cough).

I found the damn thing at a local record store that specialized in "imports". Paid $100 seven years ago for it. The downside is that's the whole thing is in mono. Take it for what it is. None of those tracks are really that rare anyways.
