| Guitar Trick I (hopefully) Discovered Fellow floydians and musicians, I tell you the following in hope that you do not rip me off/take credit for this. So today I was playing my piece of crap Squier Strat through my piece of crap DOD Grunge Distortion pedal, through my piece of crap Fender Deluxe 90 amp. And since it's (practically) summer here in Texas, I had to use this little white box fan that I reserve for special heated events such as today. While playing and created strange effects with random objects around the room, I recalled the fact that when you speak through a fan, it makes your voice all choppy and kind of buzzy. So I put my fan up to my amp and played and it sounded freaking awesome. It made it like really choppy and buzzy. I was experimenting and came up with some stuff that sounds so awesome. I definitely recommend trying this one out. It sounds like a phaser turned up to 10, but not as pretentious. I hope nobody's done this before!! |

| Re: Guitar Trick I (hopefully) Discovered Well, not technically. The classic Leslie set-up (122, 147 models, with the wood upright cabinets) have a rotating horn, which is different than RM's set-up in the fact that the speaker itself is moving, not something in front of it. The classic model's lower bass rotor (and other rotor-based Leslie systems) are more like RM's thingie, because there is a rotating device in front of a stationary speaker. RM, for more than you ever wanted to know about Leslie cabinet systems, look at http://theatreorgans.com/hammond/faq...y/mystery.html I, for one, nearly followed through on the same idea as yours when I first saw the huge caster fans where I work, but I didn't do it because, being a fan, it made way too much noise. |

| Re: Guitar Trick I (hopefully) Discovered The Leslie rotating speaker has been used for just about everything from keyboards to guitars to vocals (Black Sabbath's Planet Caravan for one). It's just a speaker unit and can be applied to any amplified signal.. Shaner is right on the technical specs on the Leslie above, but the "Fan in Front of the Cab" trick is the poor mans method to approximate the sound.

| Re: Guitar Trick I (hopefully) Discovered Well, when I tried an organ sound with a fan in front of the amp, it sounded more "metallic", not really with a Leslie warble. Though I did have the fan on "high". |
