You're very wrong buddy. There are still real punk bands, there always will be. We'll just never hear them. No one would have the balls enough to sign a band who has something to say. It's true that not very many bands ever really did, but there were a few, and suprisingly enough, the were punk bands.

The Dead Kennedys were the last band, IMO, to have anything to say. In today's market, they would never see the light of day.

Punk isn't really punk anymore, not in America at least, it's called Emo, or something. There are a few bands that have things to say, Rage(recently deceased), SOAD usually has something to say, a few others, mostly underground because the mainstream has no room for opinions. But as for punk, Blink 182, despite it's catchy songs, can't be classified as punk. Green Day, maybe. Sum 41, maybe. But even though, it's all far from the punk of the 70's and 80's. Times change, and I believe, no matter how disgusted we are of it, must accept it.

On Punk: It seems that the genre (movement rather) has more to do with its time placement and environment, and not so much the message (albeit that has its place as well). It stood for what the British kids stood for at the time in the same way Elvis, Beatles, and Nirvana for the other generations. A music movement can only exist in the context of its time, for anything else would be an imitation.

I don't honestly think anyone considers the bands you listed as punk bands. I don't think I said what I really meant the first time. To me, NOFX are one of the few bands I would even come close to as classifying as punk.

The message that SOAD and Rage have were/are nowhere near the what The Dead Kennedys had to say. The gave it to the ole g'ovt right on the chin. No mincing of words there(although Rage is a rather good point).

yeah her voice is altered alot. i dont know how she could be considered punk (though i dont know what is considered punk these days...). if she MUST be considered punk then she is definetly pop punk.

Yeah I don't really think there are any real punk bands out there anymore. There are a bunch of bands who think they are punk, but they are more pop than punk...

Avril Lavigne = NOT PUNK

Everyone who says she is or tries to be is pretty damn ignorant of her music.
