Starting of High Hopes...

Hey all... if you guys observe carefully... you'll see that the starting bell sounds of High Hopes has been taken from the ending of 'Fat Old SUn'... it is exactly a replica of the sound... listen to it... 'Fat Old Sun' also has the same bell sounds in its end...

Re: Starting of High Hopes...

Just think about the lyrics, the two songs are strictly related.

Re: Starting of High Hopes...

It's the same principle as the using of the wind and the 'ping' from Echoes on Hey You.

Can't see a connection between those two songs though

Re: Starting of High Hopes...

That's due to the rather limited sound efects they have at EMI....or Columbia....or whatever. You get my point.

Nah, I don't think Pink Floyd would use the same sounds just because that's all that available. If they really wanted a sound, they could get it (just look at "Alan's Phycedellic Breakfast").

Re: Starting of High Hopes...

its really not that uncommon for a band to use the same effects on several songs, especially if it is a really cool effect

Ya, but an iron bell being rung a few times isn't that unique/rare.

Re: Starting of High Hopes...

If that were really the case one could argue a connection between Fat Old Sun/High Hopes and Hells Bells by AC/DC.

Re: Starting of High Hopes...

Fat Old Sun and High Hopes are closely related to each other, having very similar atmosphere.

On a related note: Roger Waters' What God Wants III begins with the ping from Echoes and some chords slightly resembling Welcome To The Machine, as you probably know.

Re: Starting of High Hopes...

All three of those pings are different. Similar but different.

The bells are not. It's exactly the same bell (in Cambridge), hence the connection between the two songs.

Re: Starting of High Hopes...

I've got a Floyd concert, can't remember the date, but I know it's post-Waters era. They play Time, and after the line "The tolling of the iron bells," the bells to the beginning of High Hopes begins, and they transition nicely into High Hopes. Now that I think of it, I believe it's 8/29/94.
