That is an incorrect text for the message in "Great Gig in the Sky."

There is a message spoken by (presumably) Clare Torry in which she said, "I never said I was afraid of dying."

"I never said I was frightened of dying."

Actually It's not Clare Torry that said "I never said I was frighten of dying". It was the wife of former Floyd roadie Peter Watts. Her name was Patricia a.k.a Puddy

Roger, I don't know where other people learn this stuff, but I have a book titled "Pink Floyd Encyclopedia", and it has more than everything you would want to know about the band.

I don't suppose such books are up for grabs now are they ??!! A yes, I love Wright's music because of the beautiful utilisation of the Drummer and Bassist. All I've got is 'Wet Dream' and I absolutely LOVE Waves.

I've always noticed that Mr. Wright's sense of rhythm is very unique. I don't mean that as a euphemism of any sort to imply that he can't follow the rhythm. I mean quite the opposite...the rhythms he creates are always different from your standard ONE and TWO and ONE and TWO (I can't really render here what I'm thinking of, but I think you'll get the idea) rhythm. Even on The Division Bell, an album that some people have a lot of trouble with, you can immediately identify WtIO this way.

I've always had a hard time picking out Mr. Mason's style, because something in the back of my mind is always wondering what of the rhythm is actually coming from somewhere else.

And Mr. Wright certainly does make effective use of the lower registers, doesn't he? I would highly recommend Broken China to you, RW, if you enjoy Mr. Wright's work. But I warn you--it is a concept album, but do NOT approach it with the same mentality that you would one of Mr. Waters' albums, or you will get a disappointment. You may want to go to a website called "All Wright" and read some interviews before you listen to it, because it deals with real lives, and real pain. BTW, Broken China can be very difficult to get. You will almost certainly have to order it at www.amazon.com. (When you go there, you will find my review of the album. I don't know why, but for some reason, they removed all of my paragraph indentations, so it all runs together into one big paragraph.)

Someday, I hope to complete a full analysis of that album much as many people have done for Mr. Waters' albums. It will truly be a unique opportunity, because I may be breaking completely new ground!

Radiochair,

Thanks for the PF Encyclopedia info, I have just placed my order - using a £5 Amazon.co.uk gift certificate someone was generous (foolish) enough to send me yesterday.

Cheers,
Byron

Congrats Bride of a Bull, my persuasion got to you (unlike Fixxlevy).

I don't know if that is just an addition to LOL, but what does LOPL mean?

Radiochair,

Not wanting to pour cold water over your congratulations, it was merely your mentioning of the PF Encyclopedia which got me all excited, hot and bothered.

I'm sure fixxy must already own the tome in question, otherwise I would have expected him to be just as eager. Then again, he may just be drooling over his Pink Floyd Coffee Shop, Amsterdam sticker.

I wondered also what the heck "LOPL" stands for.

All the best,
Byron

I actually don't own this particular saucerful of factoids, although it does sound like my (and everyone on this site's) sort of thing. Because I'm off to Oz at the end of the year, I'm keeping the material gathering to a minimum.

The sticker rocked.

And will enjoy it's trip also.

Cheers for that Byron,

Mark
