| Grantchester Meadows and the Pastoral Floyd Grantchester meadows is, for me, the standout on the studio Ummagumma. This song really brought out their provincial roots. Rural boys at heart the lot of them. Goodbye Blue Sky from The Wall begins with almost an identical birdish twittering, and it dawned on me that they've drawn a lot of their repertoire from rural / pastoral / marine themes. I'm pulling these disparate threads together to create an alternative compilation on my iRiver. Though not hippies by any means, there are Earthy elements in many Floyd songs and these tracks make for an excellent trip down the lanes of my childhood. You can do the same with themes of madness, or of anger, or of almost any theme that you can find. What I really dig about the Floyd is that their appeal crosses so many emotional boundaries. There truly is something for everyone. Here's my list for the 'pastoral' Floyd so far. Chapter 24 Signs of Life Grantchester Meadows Goodbye Blue Sky High Hopes The Scarecrow Cluster One Any Colour You Like Sheep Marooned Echoes Flaming Add to my playlist.
