You have to see it from their point of view: they, just like any other profitable organization in the world, is trying to sell something to the consumer. In the same way, if today a "Best of 90's" were released, it would not be profitable to have Radiohead, Mogwai, or even Sigur Ros on it. The company is looking at the financial aspect of music - releasing a band that had several "chart hits" is a lot more profitable (simply because it reaches a wider audience) than releasing a band that had only one (Money). In other words, radio=wider appeal=bigger inclination to purchase these records of which you speak. BTW, I consider Elton John to be a very good songwriter and singer and a very important part of the 'classical' rock music scene.

Yes Floyd deserves to be on it, but I can't say I'm surprised. Those types of 'best of __' box sets have always been crap in my experience.

Pink Floyd wasn't as radio friendly/popular. Like Pipey said.

Yeah, I've noticed that kinda thing too. Other bands that are often injustly ommited: Genesis and Jethro Tull.

It may also simply be that PF didn't want to sell the rights to the 'best-of' publisher.

These things are always unofficial I mean do you really think that Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple would sell their rights? No it's all as a result of whats comercial, Pink Floyd have a steady following and are well known in the music feild but are unlikely to be recognised or bought by the casual consumer.

I find that Pink Floyd, though popular, hasnt really been a mainstream pop music band, they wrote some top 10,2040 hits but they weren't very "hip" so to speak

PF aren't a great band of the 70s? Either they regard PF as a great band of another period (50s?) or they don't regard PF as a great band. Eitherway they have shown off their crass ignorance.

Ha, I watched that same program. It got my blood boiling, let me tell me you. I don't really think it's Pink Floyd's style of music that stopped them from putting PF on there -- there were quite a few progressive bands there, I saw Yes several times. I'm not exactly sure. I mean, I never thought I'd be begging to hear "Money" played, but I was. Secondly, I was in awe at what they chose for Led Zeppelin -- "Misty Mountain Hop"?! Is that really the consummate hit of Led Zep's entire career?
