I saw that at a movie store in Portland (Maine that is) at the Maine Mall, I wanted to get it, but I was busy buying The Wall.

Yes- his first trip was indeed an organic one, I believe. If you download Morpheus, you can get the whole thing from there. It's very entertaining and wigged out, apparently. Unprocessed, Mark

I'm a bit curious. I don't understand why anyone would want to watch this. I know it would make me feel rather voyeuristic. And I guess the knowledge of what comes after that "first trip" is a bit too disturbing. Why would I want to watch somebody's first step towards doing great damage to himself? What would the Barrett family have to say about this video? What would Mr. Barrett himself say about it if decided to go looking to see what his fans were up to? (That latter, of course, is hypothetical.) I'm afraid I really don't understand what the attraction of this would be.

I know what you're saying. From an ethical point of view, it's lamentable that, even knowing what came of such actions, our curiousity is still the defining factor. However, how many times have you seen the stock footage of the skinny black guy at an open air "happening" in the late 60's gesticulating like Michael J Fox (on a bad day), and thought to yourself "Jesus- that guy's really off his head"? On both occasions, there was free will involved, and as a curio piece, dating to a spectacularly embryonic and, dare I say it, naive time, it certainly has merit. Simply because of the particular ramifications of his actions, it doesn't mean that it should be hidden or ignored, and as a voyeuristic experience relating to something of which you have personal interest, it also has a fair amount of validity. See also "Experiment, soldiers, tripping, 60's".

How many times have I seen that footage? Never... I can follow what you are saying in an analytical sense...but ethically...emotionally...I cannot follow. I'm sorry--I guess it's just me, but just doesn't feel right.

To be honest, I'm not that fussed. I saw "Faces of death" when I was a teenager, and that messed me up for a period of time. Syd Barrett being nutted and coveting fruit seems like a rather entertaining half an hour, truth be told.... Gear, Mark

I'm sure it wouldn't surprise you to know that I've never been able to watch people get drunk, either. But enough of this--I am not going to rain on anybody's parade. I've logged my opinion, and now it's time for me to get out of this thread!
